Yahoo’s Inspector Parker is an online version of the board game Clue, tasking players with discovering which person was in which room with what weapon. Once all the rooms are matched up with the correct person and weapon, it is revealed who the murderer is and you move on to a more difficult level. A downloadable version with more levels and other options is also available.

How to Play Inspector Parker

Inspector Parker is very easy to learn how to play. As the renowned investigator, you are given the job of sorting out where in the crime scene everyone and everything was. Once that’s done, forensics can discover who the murderer is and what weapon they used. To do this, you’ll need to refer to the clue notebook located on the right hand side of the screen. You should read through its many pages to get an idea of who or which weapon was in what room. These pictures show where objects or people are in relation to others. For example, one clue may show the knife above the rope or that one person is exactly two rooms to the left of another. Clicking on a clue will highlight the objects or people involved in it, making it easier to see them. In the end, each room will only have one tile in it, either a person or a weapon.

Using what you can deduce from these clues, you can hold the control key and click on weapons or people to delete them from a room. This narrows down the possibilities, and eventually, you’ll be able to correctly place one person or item. Once the first one is found, more people and items usually fall into place. Also, when there is only one possible location for an item or person, that item or person will blink, indicating they are in the correct room. Click on them to place them in that room.

The game begins with three weapons, three people, and six rooms. As you solve more and more puzzles, however, more weapons and rooms will be added until you’re dealing with 16 rooms and a dozen people and weapons.

Wrong Guesses

When you guess wrong, you will hear an explosion. If you guess wrong three times in the same game, the game is over and you have to start over.

The Bottom Line

Inspector Parker is an intriguing puzzle game that has solid graphics and sound. While neither is very advanced, both get the job done. The weapon and people tiles are all color coded and different enough from each other that it’s easy to tell which is which. The sounds, while not that prevalent or that interesting, fit the game well.

If you’re looking for a fun mystery game that requires thinking and careful deduction, then you’ll love Inspector Parker. Like Clue or logic puzzles, the game will make you think, so if you just want something that only requires mindless clicking, you should probably check out a different game. However, if you want a game that will challenge you, give Inspector Parker a try.
