Distribution Woes

In November 2005, GameCrazy, the gaming arm of Movie Gallery (which also owns Hollywood Video), made some interesting announcements about the Xbox 360.

Xbox 360

First, they said they are very concerned about distribution of the new console:

"While we remain excited about the Xbox 360 launch later this month, Movie Gallery has recently learned that its initial allocation of the new Xbox 360 consoles will be below original expectations, further reducing the Company's projections. We believe this issue to be industry-wide."

The below original expectations part should make all Xbox gamers shiver in their boots.

GameCrazy managerial leadership also publicly speculated that they may be putting the business up for sale or reconfiguration due to disappointing performance.

Backwards Compatible!

That's right. On November 14, 2005, the same date as Xbox 360 launch title lineup announcement, Microsoft declared that the Xbox 360 will be backwards-compatible with most Xbox 1 titles.

Big news for Xboxers everywhere who already have invested hundreds of dollars in their existing game libraries - and those libraries tend to include Halo 2, a huge title that only recently made its way into homes.

In addition, the 360 will allow Xbox and Xbox 360 players to compete with each other on Xbox Live, and play older titles, with antialiasing, in beautiful 720p or 1080i resolutions. These are all good reasons for existing Xbox owners never to turn on their Xbox Ones again after Christmas 2005.
