XBox 360 Backward Compatibility
Question: I thought the new XBox 360 played old Xbox games, but I tried lots of games and they didn't work. The Xbox 360 only told us to go to www.xbox.com. Should I return it to the store?
LoveToKnow Video Games Answer: First, let us congratulate you on getting your hands on one of the few 360s that was available before Christmas! In answer to your question, it is possible to play most of the Xbox games on the Xbox 360 - however, you must have the Xbox 360 hard drive to do so. If you bought the "core" system, you can buy it separately. This hard drive allows the 360 to "emulate" the original Xbox so you can play those games as well as awesome new games that you can only play on the 360.

Of course, if you do decide to return your 360 (!?!), you might find you can make a profit on it on Ebay instead of just returning it to your local retailer.

Wayde: You do not download the five Arcade Live games from the Xbox Live Marketplace. If you purchased the Xbox 360 Arcade, it should have come with a disc that contains the five pre-selected games. If you did not get this disc, then I suggest you head back to the original retailer immediately to seek a replacement.

-- Contributed by: waydeDanny: It depends on the game, but you will typically need some way to save your game information. There are memory packs, but we recommend a hard drive because you can also use it to store music, videos, etc.
