X-Men Legends 2 is an exciting, action-adventure game continuing the saga of the mutants. The game begins where the first one left off, defeating Magneto and his army of Sentinel Robots. As the X-Men try to recuperate from their recent battles, a new enemy emerges: Apocalypse, a powerful and ancient mutant with an agenda that threatens humanity and both the X-Men and Magneto’s Brotherhood.

Making matters worse, Professor Xavier and Polaris seem to have vanished! To defeat him, the X-Men and the Brotherhood unite as one powerful force. In this game, you can create teams composed of both mutant groups. Explore exotic locations, try different combinations of characters and experiment with their mutant abilities. Save the Professor and stop the evil Apocalypse!

Difficulty Level/Modes of Play

There is only one level of difficulty in this game. As you play, a secret bonus area and “danger room” area challenges will become available. You can play the X-Men trivia game, buy better equipment and skills to upgrade your team, and store extra items in your “Hero Stash” box. X-Men Legends 2 does offer different modes of play, single-player, multiplayer, and on-line play. Multiplayer mode allows up to four players. For online play you need a network adapter (Ethernet), and a network configuration file on your memory card.

Fun Factor

Fans of the X-Men will enjoy this game. X-Men Legends 2 gives you a wide selection of characters to choose from. You can have a team of up to four players or try it alone. The combat system allows you to switch characters at any time, giving you the option to try out the different mutant abilities of each one. As you progress, your experience will grant you upgrades to your skill levels. A nice feature is that it gives you the option of upgrading your team members individually or automatically.

Depth/Length of Game

X-Men Legends 2 offers enough multiple tasks and quests for your team to complete to satisfy most gamers. You will face multiple enemies and bosses that will increase in difficulty throughout the game. Gameplay is sometimes confusing when there are multiple characters battling at once. Individual characters are not always easy to distinguish, especially when switching characters frequently.

Graphics/Audio

The graphics in this game are similar to the style of comic book art. When loading a game or going into a new area you will see these fantastic images of the X-Men and Brotherhood in this unique form. A lot of information and conversation during play is given via text dialog, but you can click through them easily if you already know what’s going on. The game also offers bonus comic galleries that can be viewed once you find them during your adventures.

Audio dialog in X-Men Legends 2 is pretty good. Patrick Stewart lends his outstanding, dramatic voice as Professor Xavier, whom he also plays in the blockbuster X-Men movies. Music in this game is subtle, but sounds of combat and abilities are emphasized.
