Why rent video games

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Video game rental is becoming increasingly popular, mainly because it's a great way to try out a game without making the financial commitment to buy it. Renting a game for a couple days usually costs just a few dollars. For that price you can learn whether this is a game you want to spend a lot of time with.

To Rent or To Own

If the video game rental turns out to be something you want to finish playing – or play over and over again – it may be worth a purchase, since you can quickly rack up rental fees if you hold onto the game. However, you may also save a lot of money if you find you didn't really enjoy a game or that it was very small and you completed all of the goals quickly. While some games have enough depth to go back and replay them once you have finished, others simply languish on the shelves.

Been hearing about a genre of games that you haven't tried yet? Video game rental is a good way to quickly sample a variety of different games in a genre to find out if it is something that you find appealing

Local Stores

Most of the major – and some of the minor – movie rental outlets offer video game rentals. Among these are Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. In addition, some stores that specialize in video game sales also offer rentals. If you want to rent locally, check your local yellow pages or ask at local video game retailers for suggestions. Even if they do not offer rentals, it is likely they will know who does!

Online Rental

Online rental can be even easier. While you do have to wait for your games to arrive, you do not have to leave the comfort of your sofa or computer chair. Many of the online sites offer a monthly subscription plan where you simply sign up and then choose your games. Depending on your rental habits, the games may cost a little more or less than if you were to rent them locally. The only real downside? You need to remember to send them back.

Other Reasons to Rent

Planning to have a video game party or just going to get together with a friend and link consoles? Rentals allow you to temporarily have more than one copy of a single game, compare versions of a game across platforms and play a wide assortment of games without breaking the bank. Are some of your friends telling you that you must own Juiced, while others say Forza Motorsport is the best racing game on the Xbox? Rent them both and make up your own mind. And when you're done, post a game review that compares and contrasts them!

Or, if the game you can't wait to get your hands on is out of stock everywhere, you may be able to find it at the rental store to hold you over until you have one of your very own!
