Video Games Live

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Video games are all about creating virtual experiences. A new musical tour has taken the music from the virtual worlds of video games and turned it into a live concert experience called Video Games Live. The show is essentially a retrospective of the video game industry, in music –performed by a classical orchestra -- and video clips. Add the specially designed laser light show, live theatrical performances and a little interactive video gameplay and you have an event that is more spectacle than concert and is selling out venues.

Video Games Live Tour

The national tour for Video Games Live opens in Seattle with a show on October 29th. A San Diego show has been scheduled for November 4, 2005 and tickets go on sale on September 10th. Other cities on the tour will include Boston, San Francisco, New York, Dallas, Detroit, Philadelphia and Toronto.

The success of the July opening show at the Hollywood Bowl – with more than 10,000 people in attendance -- has prompted the creators to rearrange their tour schedule to add more shows. Check their website for new dates as they are announced.

The Festival

Not only is Video Games Live a show – it is a traveling festival. Prior to each show, there are displays with information and interactive exhibits on video games, video game character costume contests and meet and greets with video game music personalities.

The Trend: Video Game Music as Art

With advances in video game technology platforms, video game music and sound effects have advanced to the level of film scores. This has attracted serious musicians and has elevated game music to an artform instead of a technology that employed beeps and blips. Composers are creating amazing music and are embracing the interactive media.

Of course, this trend has made video game music higher profile and more games are releasing their soundtracks on stand-alone CDs. The next step for any recording artist? A tour. In fact, Video Game Live is not the only place to hear great video game music in a concert setting this year. A concert series showcasing composer Nobuo Uematsu's music for the Final Fantasy games is also touring the U.S.

Who Created Video Games Live?

Music and sound industry professionals Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall have created Mystical Stone Entertainment, LLC and are the creative forces behind Video Games Live. Tommy Tallarico has composed music for the video game industry for more than 15 years and is host of TV's Electric Playground. Jack Wall has an equally prestigious music composition and production career.
