Video Game Sex
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Video game sex has recently found its way into gaming just as sex in movies wasn't really thought of until people realized that hey, sex does sell. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's outright sexual acts though. It could be the allure of video game vixens like Lara Croft or scantily clad girls like Bloodrayne. There is a history behind video game sex and it goes way back than you first might think.
Video Game Sex from the Past
Beat'Em and Eat'Em and Custard's Last Stand were two titles on the Atari 2600 that had boys oogling very, very pixelated nude women. It's really hard to tell what parts are parts actually, so the nudity in those games were just to say it was in there. Leisure Suit Larry is a staple of semi-risqué sexual games. In the very first game, your goal was to help Larry lose his virginity. For all the potential to be banned for extremely racy material, the game actually had very little video game sex or nude women.
The first game to use sexually explicit full-motion video wasn't very sexually explicit at all. Night Trap for the Sega CD had a few scenes with girls in negligees taunting the main character. This game caused Senate hearings on video game violence and video game sex. It was subsequently banned in certain parts of the world.
Sex Doesn't Always Work
Sometimes, it doesn't matter if you have unlockable stripper videos and naked chicks. If it's a bad game wrapped around all that, then it's still a bad game. BMX XXX was that game. You race BMX bikes around tracks performing stunts to impress naked girls which might net you an video with a gyrating stripper. The game was still horrible, with lackluster bike controls and poor graphics. Basically, the game made you wish for the Night Trap of days old.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
The violent game where you played a main character whose main goal was to create havoc had one very controversial scene that could only be found with a hidden code. The code let you play a mini-game where the main character had a girlfriend and when she invited you in for "hot coffee", you actually went into her apartment to have sex.
Now it wasn't really an issue until the game's developer, Rockstar, denied that the code existed. Eventually, they gave in and never really admitted there was such a mini-game, but recalled all the games to republish the sex-free version.
Dating, and the Sexual Kind
Singles: Flirt up Your Life resembled The Sims in so many ways…except for one difference. Instead of building up a life making friends, a family, and furthering a career, all you had to do in the Singles game was to find women to get busy with. There is full frontal nudity for both the men and women and it was the first game in Australia to be considered for their R18+ rating, which is equivalent to the United States' Adults Only rating. Most of the reviews of the game are negative not because of the gimmicky nudity but because it has no depth to the gameplay.
The Dead or Alive Series
The sexiest series award goes to Dead or Alive. There is no video game sex in any of the titles (though implied sex can be figured), but the series has some of the best looking and cutest females in any game. There is a series within a series and this is where most of the allurance comes in. Dead or Alive: Beach Volleyball 1&2 showcases the girls of Dead or Alive on an island playing volleyball. If you wonder if they are in bikinis then you need to wonder no more. They are. In all of the game, the girls (like Hitomi, Christi, and Kasumi) are either dressed in next-to-nothing, or in tight-fitting outfits. It makes you wonder how they can fit in clothes like they wear.
Virtual Reality
Computer generated girls are just that, computer generated. Computer artists are good at creating realistic women and then dressing them in clothes that make boy and men drool. But the bottom line is that if video game makers are going to use sex in a video game, then the fine line needs to unquestionably clear.
