Video Game Rental - Blockbuster
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Like to rent games? Blockbuster is a popular movie and video game rental store. Located all over the U.S. and Canada, you can rent and buy entertainment very conveniently. So what can you expect from this store? Read on and find out.
Blockbuster Video Game Rentals
Blockbuster offers a wide selection of games for different video game consoles: Playstation 2, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, and GameCube. Rental costs have gone up recently, and at my local Blockbuster, you need to shell out $7.00 dollars a game for a week long rental. Fortunately, for a game addict like me, they offer a game pass. The pass costs about $20 dollars a month to rent any game I want for as long as I want. The good thing about this is if you pick a game that really bites, you can go back and pick out another one. It’s a great way to try out games to find out if you want to shell out the bucks to buy it. If you are still not sure what to rent, ask Blockbuster’s gamer staff and they can guide you in the right direction.
Selling Unwanted Video Games
What do you do with games you have beaten and have no use for? An alternative is to set up a Game Rush video game trading contract. You can trade in your old games for store credit to purchase other games, DVDs or other interesting items. The newest titled games give you the highest amount of credit. At most Blockbuster locations, they will have a list of their “Most Wanted Games” on a white board in their game section. Some games you may not want to trade in if you can get a better price selling them online on Ebay or other trading websites.
Purchasing Used Video Games
Not ready to pay full price? Then check out Blockbuster’s used game section. Many times they will have a sale of at least 25% off on traded in titles. When purchasing, ask to look at the disc to make sure it doesn’t have any major scratches or flaws. Another question you may want to ask is whether or not it comes with a game manual. This is a gamer’s preference, but for me nothing is more frustrating than a game that is not only difficult, but doesn’t give you any kind of guidance to play it. Your only other alternative is to try and research it on the Web.
Purchasing New Video Games and Accessories
Blockbuster sells new games and accessories as well. The game pricing is not always the best, but on occasion they will have a two-for-the-price-of-one sale. One time, I encountered a Blockbuster sale where they offered 3 games (from a select list) for $20 bucks. So, you will just have to keep you eyes peeled for great deals. In regards to the accessories, they seem to be standard retail price and never seem to be on sale.
Video Game Magazines and Cheat Guides
Looking for the latest games for your video game console? Blockbuster has a selection of the most popular game magazines and cheat guides. They also have in-depth game guides for select titles.
Video Game Rental at Blockbuster - Worth It?
Weigh your options. For me, it is the convenience factor, since I also rent movies there. The game pass is a good option, but like anything else you rent, it’s whether or not they have the games you want in stock. Fortunately, they usually try to carry the most popular titles. In regards to finding new games, I like Blockbuster’s helpful and friendly staff. Overall, it is a great place to pick up games and other entertainment items.
Comments
It would be great, if Blockbuster ever had efficient stock. Due to the fact that you can actually keep a game out beyond the one week at the simple cost of a restocking fee, AND the fact that people the game passes, it's extremely hard to get a title in-hand. You basically have to be there the day it's released and hope to grab one, otherwise you're outta luck. So if you're coughing up 20-30 bucks a month on a game pass, it can really suck when you have little to no options at your disposal, except maybe several obvious bad titles.
So yeah, BB would be great for game renting, if they'd logically make more copies available, but they don't. Sometimes known to be big releases will only have 2-4 copies max. They're very anal about it actually, and probably misinformed.
