Video Game Renders
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Whether you're into classic titles like the original Super Mario Bros. or more recent hits like Halo 3, there is a good assortment of video game renders that are freely available on the internet for you to download. In the following paragraphs, we will describe to you what renders or renderings are in the first place, as well as what they can be used for and where you can get them. You'll be customizing your computer and web experience in no time, sharing your love of video games new and old with everyone around you.
What Are Video Game Renders?
Typically, when you think about someone creating video game art, the traditional method would have involved a pencil and a sketchpad, but video games have come a long way since then. Instead, when someone talks about "rendering graphics", what this means is that the visuals presented on the screen -- whether they be backgrounds or character models -- are created through a series of mathematical equations and other algorithms. This is important for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphics.
Basically, the renderings re-create a real (or imagined) object, pixel by pixel. It's all about the calculations.
But why would you be interested in these graphics anyways? What good will they do you, assuming that you don't have the qualifications to develop a video game of your own? Read on and find out.
What Can I Use Renders For?
When a coder produces a video game render, it is a relatively isolated item that can be placed under different contexts. For example, a character is rendered in isolation with a fully transparent background. This allows said character to be imported into different games, different backgrounds, and so on. The same can be said about all sorts of other renderings and it is through their combination that we finally get a full perspective or a full screen of graphics.
In one scene, for example, you may see the rendering of a main character, a weapon, a tree, an enemy of some sort, and a lushly detailed backdrop.
For the average consumer, these renders, when acquired, can be used for a variety of purposes. Some people like using them as avatars in the forums they visit, others use them to create custom signature images, or taking it one step further, you can make your own video game wallpaper for your desktop. Add in some appropriate video game fonts and you've got an authentic-looking composition.
Where Can I Get Them?
There are at least two huge websites for you to use to find some cool renderings from video games. Typically, to get the best access, you'll need to sign up either for a free or premium account, so be sure to check around before committing yourself to anything.
- Planet Renders has a huge library of mostly 3D graphics, but they've got 2D stuff too. These range from World of Warcraft beasts to Ace Combat fighter jets. The hammer brother from the Mario universe is pretty amusing.
- GameRenders has a huge active community of video game enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the forums are not freely available to non-members, so there is one extra step involved before you are granted access. Once you do, though, you can request renders in one forum, poke around another to see what others have shared, and after becoming a premium member, you gain access to "premium renders."
