Video Game MP3
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Whether it's listening to an old NES tune to relive the nostalgia or indulging in a fully orchestrated score from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, video game music is quickly becoming a popular topic. Finding or making video game MP3s is easier now than ever before, and with our resources below you'll have a hard drive full of music is no time.
Where to Find Video Game MP3s
There are two basic kinds of video game MP3s available: original game rips and remixes. Ripped music is the original sound score taken directly from the game in question, while remixes are created by independent artists and often sound vastly different than the source.
Video Game Music Remixes
Overclocked Remix - By far the most popular video game remix site, OCRemix features hundreds of high-quality video game music MP3 files from dozens of composers and musicians from around the world. The vast library of files covers almost every game imaginable, but expect to see a large variety of Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy, Zelda and Mega Man tunes among others. OCRemix has recently added support for ChipTunes, a WinAmp add-on that plays original game rips from classic systems such as the NES and Game Boy.
Newgrounds' Loops & Samples - The popular flash game/movie site, Newgrounds.com also has a gargantuan collection of amateur video game song remixes free for download. Users can upload and store files with ease, and as a result, the database is sprawling and not very well organized. The quality of songs isn't nearly as good as on OCRemix, but there are still a number of great tracks to be found.
Ripped Video Game MP3s
Galbadia Hotel - This game music ripping site stores thousands of MP3 files from literally hundreds of video games. There are quite a few Japanese-only titles on the site and you'll also run across an anime soundtrack or two while you're there. A fantastic resource for almost every original game soundtrack you're looking for.
Blue Laguna - For a small but worthy collection of video game MP3s, Blue Laguna is a great place to go. Only a few dozen games are represented, such as the Final Fantasy series and The Legend of Zelda, but the quality is great and the site is easy to use.
How to Make Video Game MP3s
Want to record music from the games you play? That can either be extremely easy or nearly impossible depending on what system you're using. Recording audio from PC games and systems such as the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable is relatively simple, but getting good quality music from, say, the Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360 is quite a feat. Here's a quick guide on how to record music MP3s from your favorite video games.
- Download and install Audacity, a free audio editing program. You'll need it to record, edit and save the files you create.
- If you're recording PC game music, run Audacity, click "Record" and change the source to "Stereo Mix". Audacity will record every sound that comes through your speakers, so simply fire up your game and let it to its job. Afterwards, edit out any strange noises or awkward pauses and export it as an MP3 file. Easy!
- If you want to record from a Nintendo DS or PSP, grab a line-in cable that connects the microphone port of the system to your computer. Open Audacity, click "Record" and change the source to "Line in". Just like recording PC sounds, Audacity will now record every sound your gaming system makes. Record what you like, edit and export!
