Video Game Chairs
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Where do you sit when you play video games? On the couch? On the floor? Relaxing in a comfortable chair at the end of the day is an experience like no other. But when you combine that with your favorite video game, well, that's how life was meant to be lived. Sit back and read up on video game chairs and learn the fine art of balancing comfort with practicality. Even if you've never thought about your seating arrangements, you might learn a thing or two.
Why Bother?
If you're like the rest of us, you spend a good chunk of your time playing video games. The way you sit can have a profound affect on your mood, your health, posture, and even the way your brain functions. What does that mean? Sitting properly in a good chair can actually make you better at playing video games.
There are a few basic tips to sitting in your chair that will keep you from developing that slumped look everyone expects from avid game players.
- No matter what position you sit in, move around every twenty or thirty minutes. Get up, stretch or just pause the game and have a glass of water.
- Sit with your back straight. To facilitate this, tip the top of your pelvis forward a bit. This encourages the natural "S" shape of your spine and is its strongest position.
- Hold your shoulders back rather than let them fall down or forward.
- Tilt your neck back and raise your chin a bit. Your eyes should be even with the top of your screen.
- If any of these adjustments feel uncomfortable, don't worry, your body will adjust in time. Just try it for a few minutes each day and increase as time goes by.
Choosing A Video Game Chair
The Desk Life
Does most of your gaming take place in front of the computer desk? No problem! Buying comfortable and functional chairs for desk gaming is easy. There are a huge variety of chairs available at office supply stores, department stores and furniture outlets. Search for a comfortable and sturdy chair that supports your spine and arms. Something soft is of course nice, but not too soft, otherwise your muscles lose their tensile strength and you'll look like the hunchback of Notre Dame in a year's time. Don't be afraid to try many different seats before you decide on that special one.
Before The TV
Pulling the throne in front of the TV for a nice long video gaming session is a favorite past-time for many of us. No matter how you sit or in what kind of chair or couch you sit in, the most important thing to consider is your distance from the screen. Yeah, mom always yelled at you for sitting too close to the television screen. Unfortunately she was right.
Sitting too close to your television while playing video games stresses the eyes and, over time, can weaken the muscles that allow you to focus. You could develop slower eye-reaction times and blurry vision. You wouldn't want that, would you? It's best to sit at least 5 or 6 feet away. To measure the distance, just stand at the TV facing away and take two giant steps. Then pull up your chair and enjoy!
Handheld Gaming
Crashing on the couch with your Game Boy Advance is a great way to unwind. Handheld gamers have it easy when it comes to chair selection. Anywhere, any direction, and they can (and should) move around from time to time. Consider your neck angle when playing portable games. Try not to crane forward and look down. Tilt your head and arms up and hold the system in front of your eyes. Not only will this help your posture and eyes, but you'll be a stately and proud portable game player to boot.
Video Rocker
One video game chair that seems to be stirring some interest is the Video Rocker. This lightweight, portable and stylish looking chair is designed for video gamers and other professional loungers. It's soft and comfortable but keeps your posture from wilting like a flower. Definitely worth a look!
Buying the Seats
When taking the plunge and finally getting your video gaming chair, it's best to head to your local stores. Not only can you try the chairs before you buy them (very important!), but you'll save a bundle on shipping charges versus an internet purchase.
If the shops around your home offer nothing to suit your tastes, let the world wide web cater to your needs. Here are a few good links to find the perfect chair for all of your video gaming.
