CA-gamer

CA-gamer, is Sheila Robinson in real-life. My day job is working in an Internet Sales Department maintaining three websites at an automotive dealership. When I’m not working with cars, I am a freelance writer, video game addict and movie enthusiast. So what makes me a good writer? Let me give you the inside scoop.

Some Personal Background

Sheila’s 1st story creation

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been interested in writing. I read a lot of science fiction, fantasy, mythology and horror novels. I also spent a lot of time watching these types of movies and TV shows. My first attempt at writing stories was when I was 10 years old when I wrote "The Magic Lion and the Wicked Witch". I have a strong creative side, so I got involved with arts, crafts and music. I learned to play the flute and piano at a young age and got involved with many competitions. Check out the black and white picture. Can you figure out which one is me?

When I wasn’t involved with reading, movies or music, I played video games. My dad used to take me to video arcades, and I would spend hours playing games like Galaga, Ms. Pacman , Tetris and Gyruss. But that wasn’t enough. I had to have a video game console at home. So I bought an Atari 2600 and it was love at first sight. Since then I have bought several game systems and I will continue to do as long as I can hold a controller.

So where do my creative ideas come from? To get a better idea, here are some of my favorite authors, TV shows and movies-

Educational and Professional Background

Besides my interests in writing, I have a passion for science and technology. I attended California Polytechnic University, Pomona and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Computer Information Systems in 2002. The track I took emphasized computer programming and web design. The classes I attended there gave me a greater passion for technology and the motivation to use my knowledge in creative and interesting ways. To fuse my love for technology and writing, later I took some technical writing classes at Cal State Fullerton.

Here’s a sample of one of my technical writing documents- Encryption Report

What I’m doing now

I now utilize my technology skills in my current job as an Internet Sales Manager at an auto dealership. I maintain three websites that hold all vehicle inventory. On the side, I do a lot of online auctioning through Ebay and Half.com. In August, 2005 I started writing for the LoveToKnow Video Game website. It is here that I have been able to write about video games I play and enjoy. I couldn’t be happier! Here are some of my favorite articles I wrote:

The Future…

So what does the future hold for me? I think it looks bright. I am currently doing two things I really enjoy, writing and working with the Web. Ideally, I would like to make enough money with my writing skills to sustain me. But for now, I am happy writing about all the things that interest me. That makes my life a lot more exciting.
