Text Twist Review
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Text Twist is another simple word game from Yahoo! Games that takes minutes to learn. Bring your mind lexicon (or a regular lexicon) because you’ll be pounding your brain for obscure 3-letter words you may have never heard.
So What Do You Do?
In Text Twist you are given 6 scrambled letters and must form 3 to 6 letter words in order to score points. If you find at least one word that uses all of the letters, then you move on to the next round. If you find all the words, you get bonus points. There is a time limit that ranges from a little over 1 minute to 2 and a half minutes depending on the number of words that you can form (less time for minimal words, more time for a large amount).
On the left of the screen are the number of possible words you can form from the given letters. As you make words, they will appear in the empty boxes. You know how many there are and you know how many of each length there are so you can keep track of what you’ve formed.
If you get stuck, you have the option to ‘Twist’ the letters. This reshuffles the letters into a different order. Handy if you’ve exhausted all the visible and/or easy words off the top of your head. There is no penalty for using the ‘Twist’ button.
Your goal is to find at least one word using all the letters in order to move on and keep playing. When your time runs out, you are given the words you couldn’t find, so at least you can see the obvious ones, making you feel pretty dumb you didn’t find TOP. Can you tell I’m bitter?
The Home Version
Text Twist has a 2 MB downloadable version with a few perks. You can save your games, play 3 different modes (7 letters, 6 letters, or mixed), track your high scores, and play full screen. You can also play the timed or an unlimited time version and even link the words to an online dictionary if you are unfamiliar with a word. If you download the game, you can play up to 60 minutes worth of games. To remove this time boundary, you’ll have to pay $19.99 to Gamehouse.
Basic Strategy
The game groups words that start with the same letter so use that as a guide to start your next word if you’re stuck. Also, pay attention to the letter ‘S’. If you find a word, see if that word can go plural. Chances are it can and Text Twist does recognize plural forms. Use the ‘Twist’ button often. There is no penalty so be liberal with the shuffles, especially if you’re stuck. Who knows, a word may form out of the blue.
