Street Fighter IV Tips
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Get ready for another epic battle with Street Fighter IV tips from LoveToKnow Video Games. All of your favorite characters are back and they're being joined by a few new combatants as well. If it's been a while since you've played a Street Fighter game, you'll find that this latest entry is actually quite different from the fighting games that preceded it.
What's New with Street Fighter?
The core gameplay remains largely unchanged. You select your favorite fighter and he or she is pitted against a single combatant in a one-on-one battle for street fighting supremacy. Even though the graphics are quite different from the days of Street Fighter II, this is still a traditional 2D fighter.
However, there are several new innovations that have been introduced in Street Fighter IV that change the dynamics of the battles. One of the best Street Fighter IV tips that you can get is to get to know these new moves.
- Focus Attacks: By pressing and holding medium punch and medium kick at the same time, you can charge up what is known as a focus attack. There are three levels to this charge, with the highest level "crushing" through an opponent's block. This renders them temporarily incapacitated, leaving you with a window for destruction.
- EX Moves: These are more powerful versions of existing special moves. To use them, press two or three buttons rather than just one. For example, to use Ryu's EX fireball attack, do the fireball motion but press two punches rather than just one. This uses up one segment of the super meter.
- Super Moves and Ultra Moves: There are two separate meters for these two different hyper moves. The Super Moves use the horizontal segments, whereas the Ultra Moves use the rage meter. The Ultra Moves typically have more elaborate animations and are more powerful.
Street Fighter IV Tips for Characters
What about some Street Fighter IV tips for the individual characters?
Blanka
Unlike some of the other characters that can more easily link together moves into impressive combos, Blanka is best utilized with a guerrilla-style warfare strategy. For his Super and Ultra Moves, you can hold the punch buttons to delay their deployment.
E. Honda
One of the best Street Fighter IV tips for E. Honda is to pay attention to your distance. It can be difficult to win with Honda from far away if you are facing off against a projectile-based opponent. Staying a little closer, you gain access to powerful attacks and the Oichi Throw.
Ryu
As one of the original Street Fighter characters, Ryu has become quite iconic for the series. One of the more impressive combos that you can do is to hit a weak punch uppercut, dash forward, then hit the super fireball technique.
Vega (Claw)
Known as Balrog in Japan, Vega can really exercise the extended reach afforded by his claw. A few quick jabs with a crouching weak punch can help to keep your distance. The EX version of the Barcelona drop can pass through fireballs, so it can be easy to set up for an additonal attack.
Unlock Akuma and Gouken
Two of the most powerful characters in the game are also two of the more difficult ones to unlock. It takes some effort to gain access to Akuma and Gouken, but they're worth it. If you're looking for the best Street Fighter IV tips, you've come to the right place.
To unlock Akuma, first unlock the other Alpha characters (Cammy, Fei Long, Dan, Sakura, Rose and Gen). Next, beat Arcade mode using a character with whom you have already finished the game. You'll need to win every match without losing a round. You must also have at least one "perfect" round if you have 1-round matches, 2 perfects for 3-round matches, 3 perfects for 5-round matches, or 4 perfects for 7-round matches. Akuma will appear after you beat Seth. Defeat Akuma to unlock him.
To unlock Gouken, complete Arcade mode with Akuma. Next, complete it again using a character with whom you've already cleared Arcade mode, fulfilling the same conditions as with the Akuma unlock. You must also complete a minimum number of super or ultra combos along the way. Gouken will appear after Seth. Beat Gouken to unlock him.
Want one of the coolest looking combos in the game? Using Gouken, do his away throw (quick punch, quick kick, and away at the same time) to toss your opponent in the air. As he starts to fall back down, quickly complete Gouken's Ultra Move. That's positively epic.
