Street Fighter Characters 4

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Street Fighter is perhaps the best known fighting game in the genre, making terms like "hadouken" and "sonic boom" in everyday language. This group of articles on LoveToKnow Video Games gives a bit of background on many of the most popular characters from the series. Read up on Chun Li, Balrog, Cammy, and more in Street Fighter Characters and Street Fighter Characters 2, as well as personalities from the Alpha sub-series in Street Fighter Characters 3.

Alex

Street Fighter III: New Generation

A true sequel to Street Fighter II was demanded by the fighting game public for quite some time. Sure, Capcom released updates, including Tournament Edition and even Super Street Fighter II, as well as prequels in the form of the Street Fighter Alpha series, but it wasn't until Street Fighter III hit arcades that gamers saw the "new generation" of world warriors. In fact, Ken and Ryu were the only old names to be found in this rendition of Street Fighter.

Alex

An expert of wrestling maneuvers, Alex is a New Yorker, who, based on his accent, seems to be a native of Brooklyn. Interestingly, it seems that his character is loosely based on the professional wrestling icon Hulk Hogan. In fact, he rips his shirt open in his pre-fight intro, and when he matches up with Hugo, they engage in a stare down not unlike that of Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant in Wrestlemania III. Alex entered the third world warrior tournament to seek revenge on Gill, who seriously injured Alex's best friend Tom. After defeating Gill, Alex loses to Ryu and is encouraged by the latter to "hone his skills."

Signature moves:

  • Flash Chop
  • Power Bomb
  • Air Knee Smash
  • Air Stampede

Dudley

Dudley

You could say that Dudley is Balrog's successor, in a way, in the Street Fighter series. However, unlike the underground boxer from Las vegas, Dudley's moves are performed with "command motions" rather than "charge motions". He was born into a wealthy family in England, but after his father lost the family fortune, Dudley learned boxing in an attempt to re-accumulate his wealth. He is now quite well off, but continues to fight as a hobby. As a boxer, he has no kicking moves.

Signature moves:

  • Jet Upper
  • Machine Gun Blow
  • Ducking Straight/Upper
  • Cross Counter

Elena

Elena

A native of the African Savanna (most likely Kenya) and a tribe princess, the young Elena is a lover, not a fighter. She prefers to make friends rather than beat them up, but participates in tournaments to please her father, a witch doctor and the tribe's chief. The style that Elena utilizes in combat appears to be Capoeira, a fluid, dance-like technique known for its fancy footwork. In direct contrast to Dudley, all of Elena's techniques are kicks and leg-throws; she does not punch. Her attire is minimalist in nature, with a two-piece outfit accessorized with a number of bands around her ankles, wrists, shins, neck, and arms.

Signature moves:

  • Rhino Horn
  • Mallet Smash
  • Scratch Wheel

Gill

Gill

Gill is the final boss in Street Fighter III and was not a selectable character in the arcade version. His lifelong quest is to "create a utopia". He hosted the third world warrior tournament in an attempt to recruit the powerful people needed to achieve his goal. He bears a striking resemblance to a Greek god, with long flowing blonde hair and wearing nothing but a white thong. His body is split down the middle, with one half being red and the other being blue. Interestingly, when he is facing to the right (with his red side showing), he has fire abilities; when is facing to the left (with his blue side showing), he has ice abilities. Gill is incredibly difficult and utter frustrating to defeat.

Signature moves:

  • Pyro/Cryo-kinesis
  • Cyber Lariat (Pyro/Cryo)
  • Moonsault Knee Drop
  • Psycho Headbutt

Ibuki

Ibuki

Ibuki is a shinobi in training. One of only two female characters in Street Fighter III, Ibuki is a skilled ninjitsu warrior and was sent by her clan to procure documents from Gill regarding the rumoured "G-File" project. This project resulted in the grotesquely mutated Necro and Twelve. Ibuki is dressed in a loose fitting, khaki-coloured ninja outfit, with a mask that covers the lower half of her face. In her opinion, however, her ninja clothes are ugly.

Signature moves:

  • Kunai
  • Kazekiri
  • Raida
  • Tsumuji

Necro

Necro

Necro was abducted as a young boy by Gill's organization, and was subjected to intense experimentation and testing that resulted in major alterations to his DNA. Also known as Illia, he gained the ability to stretch out his limbs (much like Dhalsim) as well as harness electricity (like Blanka), because of Gill's "G-File Project". His mutations include an internal power generator and a cybernetic computer that regulates his abilities. Necro enters the third world warrior tournament to seek revenge on Gill for the atrocities he has suffered. Gill later created "Twelve", a mutant based on the Necro prototype.

Signature moves:

  • Flying Viper
  • Rising Cobra
  • Denji Blast
  • Tornado Hook
  • Snake Fang

Oro

Oro

It's fitting that there is very little known about this strange hermit, given that his name -- Oro -- implies a sense of confusion in Japanese. His extreme age is immediately apparent; after all, he is at least 140 years old, and it is rumoured that he has discovered the secret of immortality. His dress is simple, with a worn, monk-like garment. He has incredible physical and spiritual powers, and fights with only one arm in order to "hold back" his intense Senjitsu techniques. He is considering taking on Ryu as his student.

Signature moves:

  • Nichirin Shou
  • Oni Yanma
  • Niou Riki
  • Jinchuu Watari
  • Hitobashira Nobori

Sean Matsuda

Sean Matsuda

A student of Ken Masters, Sean Matsuda hates it when people compare him to the deplorable Dan Hibiki. Sean was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but is said to currently reside at Ken's house, training alongside Ken's son, Mel. One of his biggest hobbies, outside of practicing Ansatsuken, is basketball, and as such, he has a powerful lower body. Sean's reason for entering the third world warrior tournament was to prove his worth as a fighter, but he ultimately loses to both Ken and Ryu.

Signature moves:

  • Hadoken
  • Sean Tackle
  • Dragon Smash
  • Tornado
  • Ryuubi Kyaku

Yun / Yang Lee

Yun Lee

In Street Fighter III, these two brothers are merely palette swaps of one another, though in 2nd Impact and 3rd Strike, they become more distinct characters. Yun and Yang Lee were born in Shanghai, but grew up in Hong Kong. They studied Chinese Kenpo under the legendary Gen, who took care of the boys after their parents died. Yun and Yang also learned the Crane, Tiger, and Bear styles of Kung Fu. They entered the third world warrior tournament to show off their skills, and, as a team, actually defeated Gill.

Yang Lee

Signature moves:

  • Zesshou Hohou
  • Senkyuutai
  • Kobokushi
  • Zenpou Tenshin

i hope sean matsuda gets stronger and wiser in street fighter 5 because he's pretty good but he can be better because when ryu and ken was he's age the had almost had they're fighting technique down so producers or writers make him more worthy to be Ansatsuken fighter!!!!!!!!!
