Street Fighter Characters 3

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

The Street Fighter series gave birth to the modern day one-on-one fighting game genre, making Ryu, Ken, Guile and countless others into household names. Street Fighter Alpha takes place before the first Street Fighter game, introducing us to a number of new characters, as well as re-familiarizing us with some characters that may have been forgotten.

Adon

Read up on Chun Li, Balrog, Cammy, and more in our other two articles -- Street Fighter Characters and Street Fighter Characters 2.

Street Fighter Alpha

While some of these characters had already previously appeared in the original Street Fighter, they now became selectable. Interestingly, some characters from Final Fight, both "good" and "bad", make the jump from the side-scrolling button masher into the realm of fighting games here in Street Fighter Alpha. This game is known as Street Fighter Zero in Japan.

Adon

Adon first appeared in the original Street Fighter as the sub-boss leading up to your fight with Sagat. Three years after Sagat achieved the title of "God of Muay Thai", Adon became his apprentice and began to master the art of fighting. His clothing and appearance closely resemble that of Sagat: he wears blue boxing trunks, and tape around his hands and feet. Not as bulky as Sagat, Adon learned to focus his attacks on speed rather than brute force. He eventually defeated his teacher, but was seriously injured from their encounter, being hospitalized for several months. Adon distinguishes himself from Sagat by using "Jaguar" rather than "Tiger" techniques.

Signature moves:

  • Jaguar Kick - a leaping kick that can avoid projectile attacks
  • Rising Jaguar - a rising double knee thrust
  • Jaguar Tooth - leaping off the edge of the screen for a surprise attack

Birdie

Birdie

Originally introduced in the first Street Fighter, Birdie is one of many Shadoloo henchmen reporting to M. Bison. He is a huge man, over seven feet tall and officially weighing in at 245 pounds. Birdie is easily distinguished by his blonde mohawk, leather jacket, and strangely shaped shoes. He is far from being a skilled martial artist, prefering to use wrestling and street fighting techniques. A thug and a criminal, Birdie tried to overthrow M.Bison by making use of the Psycho Drive machine, but he failed despite help from Balrog.

Signature moves:

  • Bull Head - sliding forward with a headbutt manuever
  • Choke Chain - wraps his chain around the opponent's neck and slams them to the ground twice
  • Bandit Chain - a variation of Choke Chain
  • Bull Horn - a more intense version of Bull Head

Charlie

Charlie

Known as Nash in Japan, First Lieutenant Charlie is a two-time U.S. Fighting Tournament Champion, meeting defeat at his entry to Ken Masters. An American patriot, Charlie teamed up with Interpol special agent Chun-Li in an attempt to shut down the Shadaloo criminal syndicate. Because of corrupt officials within the army, Guile was sent to stop Charlie and Chun-Li, and it was then that Charlie informed Guile of the truth. In escaping from the Shadoloo headquarters, Charlie could not escape a massive explosion, and it is presumed that he is killed in action.

Signature moves:

  • Sonic Boom - similar to Guile's projectile move, except shot with one arm
  • Flash Kick - similar to Guile's rising somersault kick

Dan Hibiki

Dan

Dan Hibiki was designed to be a parody figure of two character's from SNK's Art of Fighting series: Robert Garcia and Ryo Sakazaki. In this way, most of his moves are ineffectual and weak, and he is best known for his over-confident taunts. His story is that his father, Go, was killed by Sagat and Dan's life mission was to seek revenge. He was thrown out of Gouken's dojo where both Ken and Ryu were trained, and developed his own breed of martial arts. Interestingly, Dan's name in Japanese (Hibiki Dan) can be translated as "Fire minus bullet", making reference to his utter uselessness and incredibly short-range fireballs.

Signature moves:

  • Ga-douken - like Ryu's Hadouken fireball, but there is no projectile
  • Karyuken - a rising, jumping uppercut
  • Dankuu-kyaku - a variation of the hurricane kick

Guy

Guy

Originally appearing alongside Cody and Haggar in Final Fight, Guy became the 39th Bushin ("Warrior God") ninja master after defeating his master, Zeku, the 38th master. It is said that Guy is good friends with Ken and Ryu, and is credited with defeating both Rolento and Sodom. An American of Japanese descent, Guy is an active participant in the effort to take down Shadoloo. He is usually depicted wearing a red and yellow gi, along with red Nike Air Dunks.

Signature moves:

  • Bushin Izuna Otoshi - also known as the Izuna Drop, Guy rolls into the air and grabs the opponent's head slamming them to the ground
  • Izuna no Hiji Otoshi - like the above move, except ending in an elbow drop
  • Houzantou - aka Mountain Demolishing Dipper, a spinning elbow attack
  • Bushin Senpuu Kyaku - a diagonally rising hurricane kick

Rose

Rose

When M. Bison expelled all the goodness in his heart to harness Psycho Power, that goodness formed within Rose. Sharing a soul with the evil tyrant, Rose has a similar energy within her, known as Soul Power. She was born in Genoa, Italy and is said to have the ability to predict the future through tarot cards. In this way, combined with her style of dress, she is assumed to be a gypsy. At one point, M. Bison takes complete control of her body.

Signature moves:

  • Soul Spark - flinging out her shawl, a projectile is emitted
  • Soul Throw - an anti-air attack that throws an opponent
  • Soul Reflect - can either reflect or absorb projectiles into her super meter

Sodom

Sodom

Known as Katana in Japan, Sodom is a caucasian male obsessed with Japanese culture, though his knowledge of the language and other details is largely inaccurate and incomplete. He is a high-ranking member of the Mad Gear gang in Metro City, first appearing in Final Fight, and is dressed in a samurai-like outfit complete with a pair of short katana blades. He was an undefeated champion of underground wrestling until he encountered the trio of heroes from Final Fight. It is said that Rolento is Sodom's blood brother.

Signature moves:

  • Jigoku Scrape - sliding forward in a swinging weapon attack
  • Butsumetsu Buster - lunging forward, grabs his opponent and performs a jumping slam
  • Daikyou Burning - runs forward and pins opponent with his weapons, dragging them on the ground
