Spore Characters
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Perhaps the biggest appeal to the Spore characters is the fact that you can customize them however you see fit. You are limited only by your imagination and you can share your alien creation with the rest of the world through online play. Spore characters represent the very essence of life!
Create Your Own Spore Characters
Designed by Will Wright and published by Electronic Arts, Spore is what you would call a massively multiplayer online game. What this means is that you are not playing this game in isolation. Instead, the way that you go about playing Spore is that you hop online and interact with other players and their creature creations.
These Spore characters will be even more varied than those that you'd find in a title like World of Warcraft. This is because you are able to design your character from the ground-up, rather than being restricted to a certain class of character and then only customizing with minor upgrades, weapons, and clothing.
You truly can create your own creatures however you see fit, whether it be a grotesque being from another planet or a pseudo-emulation of a popular celebrity. If you want to make a Spore equivalent of Donald Trump or Nicole Kidman, that's your decision.
Evolutionary Phases
When it comes to the various Spore characters, their creation is really based on evolution. You don't start out as a fully developed and social being. Instead, you have to work your way up from the unicellular level. There are five main phases in Spore for you to consider. As you approach each level, you can select the level of difficulty. Spore defaults to the easiest level.
- Cell Phase: Sometimes referred to as the microbial phase, you start out as a very simple organism, floating around in a 2D environment. There are larger predators and weaker prey. It is during this phase that you will determine whether your creature is a herbivore or a carnivore. As your Spore character grows, it will start to interact with larger and larger creatures as well.
- Creature Phase: More than just a single-cell organism at this point, your character is now like a real animal. At this phase, you will graduate to a 3D environment, but your basic goal is much the same. You want to eat, reproduce, and thrive, while avoiding predators and other threats. DNA points serve as currency, just like the Cell Phase.
- Tribal Phase: Now that your creature has evolved a little further, it is able to work as a team with others like it. At this time, you will stop controlling an individual character, instead directing the actions of the tribe. Gameplay is similar to a real time strategy game, like Command & Conquer.
- Civilization Phase: Going even further, your creature's tribal camp has grown to the size of a city. You now get to edit buildings and vehicles, as well as guide the direction of your newfound civilization. In this way, gameplay becomes very much like the classic Civilization series.
- Space Phase: The final frontier, the development of your unique species takes a quantum leap forward as you now work on an intergalactic scale. No longer are you necessarily concerned with a single creature, a single tribe, or even a single civilization. The goal now is to colonize neighboring planets, even if they appear to be uninhabitable. It is up to you to use the various tools, creating water and adjusting the landscape to make for a more hospitable environment.
The Sky's The Limit
As you can tell, the sky really is the limit when it comes to the creation of your unique Spore characters. You start out in life as an incredibly simple unicellular organism, but you will evolve into a more advanced creature and even take on the perspective of an entire city or planet.
There will be many opportunities to find unique upgrades and other customizations for your Spore characters, so be sure to be on the lookout and interact with your other online enthusiasts.
