Scene It for Xbox

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

From Microsoft Game Studios comes Scene It for Xbox 360. Scene It? is a wildly popular game series that tests your movie trivia knowledge and know-how. There are many board game versions: from James Bond to Harry Potter to HBO versions of the game. The Xbox 360 edition allows for a larger database of questions due to the capacity of the disc, so there will be hours and hours of gameplay available without repeating questions or categories.

What Is Scene It?

Scene It? is series of games that run through questions based on movies. The films aren't obscure, or mainly independent, but rather they're a nice assortment of popular movies like blockbusters and romantic comedies. There are all types of questions for all types of people. For example, you might watch a clip from a movie and then answer questions about that clip. Questions could be about anything in the clip (dialog, background visuals, etc), so you must pay attention to everything. The game designers have done a great job in find unique ways to convey the questions and almost in every version of the game, you can find a new category.

Scene It? for Xbox 360's Controller

When you purchase ‘’Scene It?’’ for the Xbox, you get four specialized controllers. The controllers are hand height and fit easily into your palm. There is a big button at the top, which is the main button you will hit to buzz in to certain games. Below that are the normal A, X, B, and Y buttons running vertically. Besides being wireless, the controller is designed for ease of use.

One major issue is that after buzzing in on a question or category, you are only given three seconds to select an answer. That means you have to quickly get your thumb from the Big Button to one of the four buttons rather quickly. Luckily, a lot of the questions allow everyone to answer the questions, and you get points based on how fast you answered.

A quick note about the controller: the Big Button also acts like a D-pad. Even though it's smooth, you can press it left, right, up, and down.

Types of Questions

Scene It? for the Xbox 360 has over 1800 questions in over 20 categories. Some of the categories include:

  • Credit Roll—You guess the name of the film based on the credits that flash onto the screen.
  • Child's Play—You guess the name of a movie from a drawing that a child has done.
  • Quotables—Your goal is to finish a famous line from a movie.

The categories are easy to understand, even if you are playing it for the first time. Make sure that everyone has a clear view of the screen, because most all of the categories require you to answer questions from something on the screen. The only exception is Soundclip, where you try to guess the name of a film from only a sound clip from the movie.

Visuals

The clips are available in High-Def, but can be watched on a regular TV. Most of the in-game graphics could have been eliminated, but Microsoft Game Studios wanted it to have more of a video game feel, especially in presentation. There is a badly animated host and sweeping camera angles of a badly pixelated movie studio. The presentation of the questions is fun, and is reminiscent of the You Don't Know Jack games, which would have been fine for presentation.

Fun For Everyone

Scene It for the Xbox is a great multiplayer and party game. It is easy to pick up and because it has no hard controller configuration, anyone can play. The questions run the gamut from easy to hard, though they're mainly geared towards adults because the movies referenced go back as far as the 1940s. Hopefully, different versions of the game will be released for the Xbox. Scene It? The Video Game Edition anyone?
