Review PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade for the
DS Lite
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
There are a number of third-party stylus products available for the Nintendo DS Lite. Most users stick with the plastic stylus that's included with the unit. That's fine, but at LoveToKnow Video Games, we like to get a little more adventurous. Below is a review of the PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade for the Nintendo DS Lite, sometimes known as the Battle Stylus. The product is surprisingly durable and really won our hearts as we ran it through a gamut of tests. Read on to learn more about this tough little beauty.
About the PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade for the DS Lite
Known for their high-quality PDA stylus products, PDA Panache hit the world of video games with the original Battle Stylus for the classic Nintendo DS system. Featuring a sturdy design, added weight for more precise control, a high-contrast rubber tip and shiny chrome exterior, the Battle Stylus immediately became the BMW of the DS stylus world. Not only did it feel great in our hands, it looked rather sharp and fit snugly into the stylus slot on the DS unit.
Now the Nintendo DS Lite comes along and brings a longer, thicker pack-in stylus that sheathes in the side of the system. The extra bulk is great, but the cheap plastic feel never goes away. Thankfully PDA Panache has come to the rescue once again, bringing DS Lite users a high-quality alternative stylus. The PDA Panache Pro Stylus Upgrade has the same features as the original Battle Stylus, only sized appropriately for the Nintendo DS Lite. It's a sturdy replacement for the pre-packaged stylus and offers both style and functionality.
The Stylus Experience
The PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade works wonders for all games utilizing the Nintendo DS Lite touchscreen. The most striking difference is the added weight the metal stylus brings to the table. Rather than pinching a scant piece of plastic in your hand, your fingers know they're gripping something substantial. Control is surprisingly more accurate, especially when hunting small objects to tap on the screen. It's a marked difference you'll feel from the moment you pick it up.
After some long gaming sessions with a few different titles (like Animal Crossing: Wild World), we found the PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade was just as comfortable as the pack-in stylus, if not a little more so. It's easier to handle thanks to the extra weight and the bright orange tip is easier to see against most game backgrounds. The slick exterior would be difficult to hold, but a ribbed surface lets your sweaty gaming fingers grip the end without a hitch.
In addition to normal use, we put our Battle Stylus through a number of stress tests. Think of it as a simulation of a year in the life of your stylus. The results aren't surprising for a solid metal accessory, but they're certainly worth considering if you're looking for a good quality replacement for your plastic stylus.
- We tried bending, smashing and crushing the PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade. Nothing happened.
- How about scratches, dents and cracks? We tried gnawing on it, throwing it around the room and scraping it with various metal objects. Other than some scratches produced by a few kitchen utensils (don't ask), the stylus is unscathed.
- After extensive use, the chrome exterior hasn't dulled or shown signs of scuffing
And finally, the appearance. The PDA Panache Stylus Upgrade proved itself in our series of tests, but it's got an attitude to back up its muscle. Check out the images on this page of the gorgeous stylus. The shiny exterior manages to look both professional and fun at the same time.
