If you have been experiencing difficulty with certain aspects of the game, it would make sense that you would be interested in a Return of the King walkthrough guide. The incredibly epic video game is filled with all sorts of complexities, so you may need a hand to get your way through this Lord of the Rings adventure.
A Basic Return of the King Walkthrough
Given the length of the game and the constraints of this space, it would be impossible to provide a fully comprehensive Return of the King walkthrough guide. That said, we can provide some basic tips and hints for getting through the stickier points of the adventure. If you are still having some trouble, you may want to check out some of the cheat codes that are available for Return of the King as well.
The Path of the Wizard
Staying with the good guys, your Lord of the Rings journey starts out with Gandalf the Wizard at the battle of Helm's Deep. The initial battle is largely a tutorial, teaching you the basic attacks that you will use in the game. After that tutorial, you go on to climb the ladder for the range tutorial, and then you use the rope to get off the wall, and then you set off the balistes.
After that, you begin The Road to Isengard. Fight your way through to the Ent event, kill the enemies, fight your way to Isengard, set off the explosives on the Orc towers, kill two Uruks on the Bridge, cross the bridge, fight to the bottom of the mountain, and then fend off the Uruks.
Eventually, you'll get to the Minas Tirith Courtyard. You need to save 200 people so that they can go to the inner city. There is no apparent time limit to this stage, but you do need to stay alive. Be strategic and kill as needed.
The Path of the King
For the next part of the the Return of the King walkthrough, you take the Path of the King. Go past the mist, fight the spectors, and reach the bridge. From there, kill the archers using ranged attacks and lower the bridge. Go until the pillars collapse and make your way through, knocking down the pillar to get to the gate. Go left, open the gate, cross the bridge, and kill 35 spectors.
After defeating the King of the Dead and avoiding boulders, progress through the Southern Gate. You will also need to kill Mumakil along the way. From there, you head to Pelennor Fields to kill Mumakils and attack the Witch King. The final chapter in the Path of the King is the Black Gate where you'll do a lot of fighting, concluding with a battle with the Nazgul.
The Path of the Hobbits
With the Lord of the Rings, the focus will largely be on Frodo and the hobbits. That's why this path is perhaps one of the more interesting and timely ones for you to enjoy.
In this final portion of the Return of the King walkthrough, you start with an escape from Osgiliath. Kill the Orcs, avoid getting captured by the Nazgul, run up the stairs, climb down the ladder and take out the archers. Follow the path to the gate near the end, opening it to get to Shelob's Lair.
Shelob's Lair can be a little disorienting, so try to stay as far to the left as possible when going through the pathways. Skip past the group of orcs by sticking to the left. If you encounter pathways blocked by spiderwebs, you can burn them with your torch. Running through the rest of the stage, you'll fight Shelob. After an attack, she'll back off momentarily. During this time, come in with a swift attack. Repeat as necessary.
After Cirith Ungol and killing Gorbag, you'll reach the Crack of Doom to combat Gollum. Stay to the sides and wait for him to jump at you. Get out of the way, using a fierce attack when Gollum appears to be off-balance. This will push him closer to the edge of the cliff. Eventually, you'll be able to use a finisher to knock him off.
