Preorder Nintendo Wii Games

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

The last thing you want to see when you arrive at the local video game store is a "sold out" sign, so it's probably in your best interest to preorder Nintendo Wii games. As we have already experienced with several titles in the past, it's not uncommon to find that stores are out of stock shortly after a game arrives.

Why Preorder Nintendo Wii Games?

In an ideal world, you can walk into just about any video game store and buy the title of your choice. However, that's definitely not the case when it comes to more obscure games and with the most popular new releases.

As you may recall, there was a severe shortage of a certain exercise game in late 2008, making it very difficult to buy Wii Fit. The stores couldn't stock their shelves fast enough! The only way that you could guarantee a copy was to preorder Nintendo Wii games like this.

Thankfully, you don't run into the same kinds of situations for Virtual Console games. Because these come by way of digital delivery with no physical media being received, there is no way that they can ever run out of stock.

Who Accepts Preorders?

If you have a feeling that an upcoming new release will be in high demand, you should definitely consider putting in a pre-order for that title. Some of the best Nintendo Wii games tend to sell out for the first couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, not every store will accept reservations for the hottest games. Your experience may vary based on your location and the individual store policies in your area, but some of the options you can consider when you want to preorder Nintendo Wii games include the following:

  • GameStop/EB Games: It is unlikely that you'll find a great deal on a new game through this specialized store, but most locations will typically accept preorders for just about any game. You just have to leave a small deposit and the store should call you when a copy becomes available.
  • Amazon: Preorders don't have to be taken at brick-and-mortar locations! One of the most popular online retailers also happens to accept preorders on certain upcoming games. However, you will have to wait for the game to ship before you can play it. This delay, however, is certainly better than not having the game at all.
  • eBay: While this online auction site is usually where you'd turn for cheap video games, there are also "Power Sellers" who will pre-sell games that are about to be released. As with any other eBay transaction, you'll want to check the feedback of the seller and verify when the game will be shipped.

It appears that many "big box stores" like Best Buy do not accept pre-orders, working instead on a "first come, first served" basis instead. Don't be afraid to ask though!

What Games Should I Reserve?

Looking ahead to the rest of 2009, what are some of the Nintendo Wii games that you should consider reserving?

  • Madden NFL 10: This is the latest in the hugely popular NFL football franchise from EA Sports, continuing with the family friendly controls that we saw last year. Hit the gridiron and score a touchdown!
  • Guitar Hero 5: This complete band game continues on the success of Guitar Hero World Tour, offering more songs, more venues, and more rip-rocking fun than ever. It should be available as a standalone game, as a complete guitar game, and as a complete band game.
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii: You may remember the brilliant reimagining of the classic Mario platformer on the Nintendo DS. Now they've taken the franchise to the Wii, complete with cooperative multiplayer with up to four gamers!

The only way that you can guarantee you'll get a copy on launch day is to preorder Nintendo Wii games that you really want to play. You may not be able to shop for the best deal, but you may sometimes end up with free bonuses like caps and accessories!
