It may be the dead of winter in most of the world right now, but in the world of Sony-powered gaming, things are getting red hot. These much-anticipated new PlayStation 3 games are the reason. The PS3 still doesn’t have a solid US release date - everyone’s running on hints and allegations, the merest fumes of things to come... but oh, are those fumes aromatic and dizzying!
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
The sequel to the PS2’s powerful Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, promises to be gorgeous and thrilling. Konami touted an eye-popping trailer at the big 2005 gaming debutante’s ball, aka the E3 conference and exposition, and unlike many other PS3 trailers, it was being completely rendered in real-time.
In Metal Gear Solid 4, our erstwhile special-ops hero, Solid Snake, is now a grizzled veteran facing legions of bipedal robots - and doubtlessly, he also is up against a cadre of superpowered bad guys and the usual save-the-world situation. Old friends Revolver Ocelot, Otacon, and Meryl make reappearances.
Tekken 6
Six? Are we at six already?
Oh, I'm sorry. The classic Sony beat-‘em-up is back! According to eyewitnesses, the 2005 E3 teaser for Tekken 6 was mesmerizing, featuring a jaw-dropping action sequence with a visibly sweating, punching and kicking Jin Kazama. It was also about 30 seconds long - or should we say short? “A new reality awaits,” claims Namco, the developer.
Devil May Cry 4
You won’t see it mentioned on the Capcom website right now, but the sleek and pale demonkiller Dante makes a repeat performance on the new PlayStation. Expect more stomach-turning, monstrous bosses, more moody gothic levels, more shapeshifting, and more frantic slashing and gunning.
Gran Turismo 5
The legendary racing game returns with the usual tweaker’s fantasy of hyper-detailed car upgrades, technical races, and circuits galore. GT fans are hoping this version will bring them compelling online play.its crap
The Getaway 3
“The UK’s Grand Theft Auto” returns on the PS3. Play a good guy or a bad guy, a gangsta or a copper, in modern England. The team is apparently trying for grittier and grimier. Or is that "grittier and limey-ier?"

Sonic the Hedgehog
The blue guy is back! And this time on the PS3, and also the Xbox 360. As evidenced by the simple title, this Sonic takes us back to basics with blistering speed, more straightforward objectives, and picturesque environments.
Killzone 2
This gritty Halo-esque shooter returns - and hopefully with smoother framerates. Detailed environments, a panoply of futuristic weapons and foes, and multiple player-driveable vehicles provide the enticements.
Fatal Inertia
The Japanese gaming concern Koei brings us a futuristic racer in scenic, high-ranging worlds. Early screenshots show stylized but detailed speeders blazing through rings in the sky. It’s Koei’s first racing game... will they be able to pull this one out on the back stretch?
Lair
Allegedly fairly deep into production, Lair promises hyperreal and vicious dragon-on-dragon combat. Very little else is known, but the team behind Lair brought us the impressive GameCube launch title Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
Genji 2
Sequel to the PS2’s Genji, this Japanese medieval action-adventure brings back Yoshitsune with all his swords, armor, and pouty looks. Get ready to lock swords and dodge shurikens in a fierce battle with evil.
