Nintendogs Cheat Codes: Tricks
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Nintendogs is the game of puppy love for the Nintendo DS. It comes in three varieties: Labrador and Friends, Chihuahua and Friends, and Dachshund and Friends. Each version offers the same gameplay but with a slightly different twist. All puppies are unlockable in each version, depending on which one you buy your starting pups will vary. Items also vary slightly between the versions. No matter which Nintendogs you have, we know you're just as hooked as we are!
Nintendogs Cheat Codes - About Tricks
Training your puppies can be a difficult task. Fortunately it's easier (and cleaner!) than training a real dog. You can only teach your pet three or four tricks per day depending on the breed. He or she can learn a maximum of 15 tricks total, though you can delete tricks that you don't really like after learning them.
When teaching a trick to your puppy, be sure to speak clearly into the microphone. Nothing causes confusion (the question marks over your dog's head) easier than a mumbled command. Say the word(s) loudly and clearly and without any intonation. This makes it easier to understand and easier to repeat when you want your pet to perform the tricks later.
Different breeds learn at different speeds. A labrador will learn much faster than a chihuahua, so be patient with your pup and give ample rewards for correctly performed tricks, such as treats, a comb or a good long petting session.
The command names we have listed below are not the only names you can use. Theoretically you could use any sound or word you can utter. But to make things easier to remember and keep the words very distinct, we've chosen a good set of commands that will help your training go much more smoothly.
To learn a trick, follow this formula:
- Perform the action with your puppy.
- Touch the training icon and say the trick's name.
- Pet the puppy for a job well done.
- Repeat throughout the day until the trick is learned.
Shake Hand
Touch your dog's front paw and hold it for a moment. Then lift his front leg upwards. Immediately touch the training button and say "shake hand" Repeat until the trick is learned!
Sit
Touch your puppy with the stylus and make quick downward motions. She will eventually sit and stare at you. Touch the training icon and say "sit".
Lie down
Have your puppy sit, either by using the trick above or by touching him and motioning down with your stylus. While he's sitting, touch near his chest and make another downward motion. It's tricky getting the movement just right, but when you do the puppy will lay on his side. Touch the icon and speak "lie down"
Roll
Have your dog sit and then lay down, either with the tricks above or by touching and motioning downward with the stylus. While your pup is laying on her side, make a sideways sliding motion with your stylus. She should do a quick roll in the direction you moved. Touch that training icon and say "roll".
Have your dog sit, then get him down onto his belly (DOWN), then touch your dog and draw a straight line horizontally. You dog will go onto his side.
Back
After teaching your puppy to lay down, have him learn to lay on his back with paws in the air. From the lay position, simply make a quick stroke upward with your stylus. He'll roll right onto his back!
Chase
Grab your dog's tail by touching it with the stylus and wag it back and forth. She will eventually catch sight of it and start running in circles trying to catch it! Touch the training icon and say "chase"!
Jump
One of the more difficult tricks to do, jump is also one of the most fun to perform. Wait until your puppy runs up to you and starts wiggling his butt. This means he's ready to play. Then quickly tap the very top of the touch screen with your stylus. Your puppy should leap into the air!
Stand
When your dog is standing on all four legs, touch the lower screen and draw a quick line upwards. She'll stand on her hind legs for a few moments! Quickly tap the training icon and say "stand". This is a very difficult trick for some puppies and some won't perform it at all. Be patient and kind with your friend.
Mirror Tricks for your Nintendog
Although they aren't new tricks, you can often teach your puppy the same trick he or she already knows -- on the opposite side. A great example is the "hand" command discussed above. Have two commands, one named "gimme paw" and the other "hand", one for the left paw and the other for the right.
