Nintendo is finally bringing Nintendogs to Nintendo DS owners in the U.S. The game, billed as a virtual puppy, sold incredibly well in Japan after its release last year. In fact, it was credited with selling more Nintendo DS systems than any other DS game in Nintendo's lineup.
While virtual pet-style games are not generally as popular here as they are in Asia, Nintendo certainly hopes to capture the hearts and kibble bowls of American gamers with this new release.
What is Nintendogs?
Nintendogs is the next generation of virtual pets. You start by picking your puppy. Each of the three versions of the game comes with six different dog breeds (see below for a list). You can also customize your dog's color and personality. The dogs are all incredibly cute!
Then, you need to care for your puppy and train it. Feed it, scratch behind its ears and teach it to do tricks. Far more satisfying than the blinking blips of the Tamagotchi and more well-developed than the Neo Pets, the Nintendogs are reportedly incredibly rewarding pets.
The game even includes some voice recognition software to allow you to teach your dog its name and give it simple voice commands. Best of all, the game is appealing and appropriate for the whole family!
