Nintendo DS Lite Colors

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

There are many Nintendo DS Lite colors you can choose from. Besides the colors, there are also themes you can have to individualize your DS or purchase for your collection. You might be wondering how many colors were released or just how many themes Nintendo could have pumped out being that the handheld gamer is just over two years old.

Nintendo DS Lite Colors

When the DS Lite was launched in Japan in March 2006, three colors were announced, but only one actually made it. Crystal White, Ice Blue, and Enamel Navy were supposed to released at the same time, but only Crystal White made it to launch. The ice blue and navy colors arrived a few days after the Crystal White and then four months later, Nintendo added the Noble Pink color. In September that same year, the Jet Black DS Lite was released. So if that wasn’t enough, Nintendo released two Nintendo DS Lite colors: Metallic Rose and Gloss Sliver. These two colors were also launched in South Korea and were the first video games released under the new Nintendo of Korea company.

In Australia, white (or Polar White) was the only color available at that country’s launch. Soon after, Jet Black (Onyx) and Coral Pink arrived. The following year, Nintendo of Australia shipped Ice Blue DS Lites for a limited time. In June 2008, another color combination was available for a limited time: Blue/Black and Red/Black.

North America had a similar launch like Australia. White (or Polar White) was launched, which was quickly followed with Jet Black (Onyx) and Coral Pink. That was it for about a year and then the Crimson/Black DS Lite came with Brain Age 2 and wasn’t available for purchase individually until a month later. In 2008, two new colors arrived on the scene about six months apart. Now you can also get Cobalt/Black and Metallic Rose

Europe got some cooler colors than the other regions. Once again, white was not problem at launch, but a Smart Black color emerged, which was a special color for Europe. Soon, Coral Pink (or Noble Pink) and a Platinum DS Lite released. In June, three more colors were put onto the market: Red, Green, and Turquoise.

Nintendo DS Themes

Do you have a favorite Nintendo game? Chance are that there is a themed DS Lite available for it, though you may have to import most of these special Nintendo DS Lite colors.

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy III was remade in Japan and was put into a bundle with a Crystal White DS with artwork by Akihido Yoshida. Another Japanese release was Final Fantasy XII: Sky Pirates. The last Final Fantasy themed DS was Final Fantasy Chronicles: Ring of Fates. The DS for this bundle had line art on the right and the title of the game on the left of the DS.

Pokemon

The Pokemon Center Pikachu Edition was a Yellow DS with Pikachu on the front cover of the DS Lite. If you wanted one, first you had to go to Japan. Then between June 1 and July 1 2007, fill out an application for a chance to win a chance to purchase this special bundle.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Edition

Need a gold DS Lite to round out your collection? Then get your hands on The Legend of Zelda edition that is gold with the Triforce etched in the bottom right corner of the front.

Other

The Seattle Mariners edition has a DS Lite version with their logo on the front. There are still some available as of this writing. If you were a lucky soul who got to go to the Disneyland premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, then it’s possible that you got one of the special editions of the DS with Jack Sparrow in front of a castle on the front cover and the phrase “Where the Adventure Comes to Life” on the back cover.

So Many Options, So Little Time

You could have the ultimate collection of Nintendo DS Lite colors with a little perseverance, time, and (oh, yeah) money.
