New PSP Rumors

A Built-In Camera

There's a rumor floating around the internet, that the PSP2 -- as it's been dubbed -- will sport a built-in digital camera, with the lens placed just underneath the screen. That is, the camera will be mounted where the PSP logo is currently located. This camera will be capable of video streaming to the forthcoming PlayStation 3 via Wi-Fi, and might be used for the upcoming HUB PlayStation service. Sony is not developing a brand new camera for this application, as it seems that should this rumor be true, the company will be integrating the same Motion Eye unit found in a number of Sony Ericcson cellular phones and Sony Vaio laptop computers.

4GB of NAND Flash Memory

If you own a PSP, you're probably all too familiar with the frustration of a lack of storage space. To watch videos, you need to buy UMD discs or load them up on Sony's proprietry memory sticks. Well, word on the street is that the next PlayStation Portable is going to have some built-in memory this time around. At first, people were thinking that Sony would shove 8GB of NAND Flash in there, but more recent information has been pointing toward 4 gigabytes instead. This should still be enough for all your, er, "applications." We here at LoveToKnow encourage the development of homebrew games, as it furthers the gaming industry and provides it with some unique ideas, but, of course, we do not condone the use of "pirated" or illegally downloaded software in any way.

Looking Good, Slimming Down

The PSP2 (some have even gone around calling this thing the PSPtwo) will likely be available in three different colours: black, white, and silver. Not much else is known about the next PlayStation Portable as far as aesthetics, but it will likely look very similar to the current offering. MOreover, if you find the PSP a little too chubby, you'll be happy to hear that the new PSP will be 1/4-inch thinner.

At this point, these are all just speculation; none have been confirmed. They seem plausible, but until an official announcement comes from Sony, we have no way of knowing for certain whether there is any truth to these rumors.
