NFL Madden Player Updates

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Throughout the football season, you are able to get NFL Madden player updates downloaded directly to your gaming console of choice. Because Madden football games are typically released in August, rosters are current to that point. So, any changes made after training camps and preseason games are only available through downloads.

NFL Madden Player Updates

Rereleasing the game would be useless to Electronic Arts and to gamers. Ensuring you are able to receive these updates can give you the latest trades and roster changes from September through January. In early incarnations of Madden that included a "Create a Character" mode, you had to create a character that resembled the stats of the changed player, but no more. The Brett Favre Update

The biggest of the NFL Madden player updates for Madden 09 was EA Sports releasing an update that has Favre playing QB for the New York Jets. You can also download a cover for Madden 09 that has Brett Favre in a Jets jersey. That way, you can switch out the Packers' Brett with the Jets' Brett. The only thing that didn't change in the game is that Favre is on the All Madden Team as a Packers quarterback. That should be fine for most sports gamers because he built up his legacy on the Green Bay team.

Preseason NFL Madden Player Updates

To some, preseason football means absolutely nothing: just about everyone gets to play, stats aren't recorded after the final preseason game, and starters are usually limited per game.

Madden 09 uses the preseason as a gauge to increase or decrease ratings based on performances. Some of the changes that usually get made in the updates are:

  • Ratings go up
  • Ratings go down
  • Contracts are taken into account
  • Injuries are added
  • Transactions are added

The Biggest Updates of Madden '09

  1. HB Cedric Benson of the Bears was released as a free agent due to poor performance since his draft. Kevin Jones was picked up instead.
  2. QB Chad Pennington was released as a free agent.
  3. QB Brett Favre was traded to the Jets.
  4. HB LaMont Jordan was released by the Raiders, then signed with the Patriots.
  5. DE Jason Taylor was traded to the Redskins
  6. TE Jeremy Shockey was traded to the Saints.
  7. HB Travis Henry was suspended.
  8. DE Michael Strahan retires.

The Second Madden Update

On average, a second Madden update occurs about two to three weeks after the start of the season. Because preseason is a minimal indicator of true performance, the games of the actual football season improve or lower ratings because they represent how a football player might play on a more consistent basis. For instance, in Madden 09, Kyle Orton went up by one point, while Rex Grossman when down five points. Orton is the starter and when Rex does play, he continues to throw the ball willy-nilly around the field.

EA Online

You can only get the updates through EA Online and only for the current game released for the season. So for right now, Madden 09 is the only Madden you can get updates for. If you are still playing Madden 08, then you are out of luck. If you have a console that is online, then make sure you have it set up to receive roster updates. The Nintendo DS or the PSP cannot receive these updates. The only thing you can do is to trade players like the real trades in order to be as accurate as possible.

Accuracy Rating

If you love Madden, then getting the NFL Madden player updates in essential to playing an accurate season of football. Whether you sit back and play main office politics with trades and contract negotiations or you get your hands dirty by controlling each aspect of the four quarters, then you will want the updated stats and ratings and player changes. They're free anyway, so why not just download them?
