Mii Characters

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

A big part of the appeal of Nintendo Wii games is the ability to make and use Mii characters in the games. This adds a great deal of personalization to games that are already a blast to play on their own.

Mii Characters

Create Your Own Mii Characters

Navigating to the Mii Channel from the main menu on the Nintendo Wii, you have the ability to create and edit a wide range of Mii characters. These cartoon-like representations of real characters can be as wildly innovative and unique as your imagination will allow them to be.

They won't be photo-realistic, of course, but it means that you can have whatever kinds of characters you want in some of your favorite Nintendo games. Some third-party developers have worked on and are continuing to work on agreements with Nintendo to bring the player-created Miis into their games as well.

The Nintendo Wii manual may offer a brief introduction into how to develop your own Mii representations, but it is only through trial and error that you can see just how far this tool can go. Make the whole family!

Using the Mii creation tool, you can adjust many aspects of the characters that you customize and create. Even though the tool is quite robust, the interface is very simple and straightforward. This is in line with the Wii mentality. Everything is done through a "point and click" interface, choosing from a set number of eye designs, mouth designs, and so on.

Upon selecting the hair style, you can also adjust the color of the hair. Each created Mii is also associated with a certain color of your choosing and this is represented by the color of his or her shirt. This makes them easier to distinguish and gives them a big spark of personality.

Make Mii Celebrities

When the Nintendo Wii was first released in 2006, most people took to the Mii Channel to make digital versions of themselves. However, it wasn't long until gamers started to realize the full potential of Mii characters in producing some Mii celebrities too. These include both fictional and real-life celebrities!

In the screenshot shown above, you can see quite the variety of characters produced using the Nintendo Wii's Mii tool. On the far left is Robocop, which required some unconventional uses of hairstyles and other accessories. Also in the image are rapper Tupac Shakur, actor Jack Nicholson, Naruto character Rock Lee, and the infamous Adolf Hitler.

Feel free to let your creative juices flow from within the Mii creation tool, since the sky is quite literally the limit. For a little help or inspiration, try performing a quick web search or a search on popular video-sharing sites like YouTube to find various tutorials for making your favorite celebrities. Want a Tom Cruise Mii? How about Spider-Man or Superman? These are all possible!

Play as Mii in Wii Games

Mii characters can be funny from within the Mii Channel, but they are much more fun when they are unleashed into the in-game environment. This started with the original Wii Sports, but has quickly expanded into other games like Wii Play and Wii Sports Resort.

Apart from the amusing aspects of Mii creation, these characters also come with a very important functionality. Each Mii works as an on-screen avatar of each person playing the game, but the stats and achievements are also linked to the Mii that achieved those stats and records.

For instance, if you use the "Robocop" Mii to bowl a 300 in the bowling game in Wii Sports, that high score will be associated with the "Robocop" Mii and not with the Mii that you may have created to mimic your own real appearance. Keep this in mind when chasing high scores and going after certain achievements.
