About Men in Black 2: Alien Escape

Men in Black 2: Alien Escape is an action/shooter game inspired by the popular movies. The MIB agency has been monitoring alien activity on earth for several decades. Recently there has been an upsurge of dangerous aliens landing on Earth with evil intentions. In this mission-based game, you play either Agent J or Agent K who are assigned to stop violent or disruptive alien threats on the planet.

Difficulty Levels/Modes of Play

There are two levels of difficulty in Men in Black: Alien Escape: Normal and Hard. You will find that the Normal level is not that easy. All the aliens have different weapons that fire in different directions and speeds. The first time I tried this game, I got my butt kicked because I had such a hard time dodging their fire.

The game offers a couple different modes: Mission and Combat Skills Training. Mission mode is the central part of the game. At the Agency, Zed talks to you about a current alien threat he would like you to eliminate. The missions will take you to a wide variety of locations; the city, dark caves, strange wildernesses and alien spacecraft. A nice feature is that Alien Escape has an auto save feature, which is useful in those overpowering alien encounters.

Fun Factor

This game is okay. When I first got it a couple years ago, I thought it was really cool. Now that I play it today, it seems a little dated. You begin by choosing which agent you would like to play. Both agents use similar weapons, but Agent J seems to move a little faster than K.

In missions, moving around areas is not always easy. Your view is not the best when you try to see different angles. Also, your weapons do not have any kind of auto locking mechanism, making it difficult to know if you’re going to hit your target. Later in the game, your weapons do get a bit better and do a wide spread fire. You will need this, since the alien encounters more difficult to handle. I like alien shooter games, and since it is Men in Black naturally I was intrigued. You get to see all kinds of weird aliens in this game, along with the “worm guys” from the Men in Black movies.

Audio/Video

The audio music soundtrack is some dorky pop music that keeps repeating itself through out the game. The voices of the Agents are similar to Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ voices. It would have been better if they got the real actors, but what are you going to do. They do try to throw in some cheesy punch lines for comedic effect, which doesn’t always fly.

Video. The graphics in this game are not the best, and seem to be a little flat. Character motion is not that fluid, and you will spend a lot of time trying to adjust your view. This can be frustrating, especially when a dozen of aliens are firing at you! The Agent characters look and have similar mannerisms to the actors, which is kind of funny.

Summary

Men in Black 2: Alien Escape is a mission-based, shooter game where you play Agents J or K to defeat alien threats. Use multiple laser weapons and your reflexes outwit them. Fight in alien ships, dark caverns and other strange places. Save the Earth, stop the alien scum.
