Madden NFL 10 Player Attributes

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Choosing the right team to chase the Super Bowl means having a good grasp on the Madden NFL 10 player attributes. As with so many other sports games, this newest addition to the Madden franchise gives a series of attribute points to every player, describing his ability to run, tackle, catch, and so on.

Hit the Field with Madden 10

Ask just about anyone what is the best football game to play, and most of them will inevitably reply with Madden NFL 10. The team from EA Sports has once again outdone themselves, producing not only one of the best-looking games in the series, but also one of the most robust and realistic depictions of the real game.

With Madden 10, you gain access to all of the real players, all of the real teams, all of the real arenas, and all of the real playbooks. Similarly, the Madden NFL 10 player attributes have been assigned to best represent how these players actually perform in real life. When they hit the gridiron, they come ready to play.

What's Changed with Madden NFL 10 Player Attributes?

In most other previous football games, people have complained that the player ratings have come inflated. We all understand that these guys are professionals and the players are obviously better than the average Joe on a Sunday night, but when everyone has ratings of 80+, they start to lose their meaning.

To address this, EA Tiburon has decided to revamp the player attribute system in Madden 10 to give it more of a range. In the old games, the route running rating for a wide receiver would never be shown to be lower than 62. In this way, the attributes were not on a true 100 point scale.

While you still won't find any players with a rating of under ten, Madden NFL 10 does "stretch" the scale to make for more of a differentiation between players. Instead of only going from 62 to 99, the route running rating for a wide receiver in Madden 10 can now range from 35 to 99.

Similarly, the average overall rating of a linebacker may have dropped from 80 to 70, even if the actual abilities of this player have not truly changed. This does make the difference between good and great players a little clearer though.

Brett Favre Unretires Again

Brett Favre came out of retirement for the 2009 season to play for the New York Jets. He retired at the conclusion of that season, but then he "unretired" again for the 2010 season to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

Based on his performance in the previous season, Brett Favre is getting a different set of attribute ratings for Madden NFL 10. Part of this has to do with the shift in the Madden NFL 10 player attributes as described above, but Favre did through a league-leading 22 interceptions last year too. He is also one year older.

Most of the player attributes assigned to Favre for Madden 10 are lower than the attributes he received in Madden 09. His overall rating drops from 84 to 82, his "throw on run" rating goes from 80 to 72, his injury resistance falls from 99 to 90, and his throw accuracy is decreased by 5 points. The only rating to improve is his deep accuracy, which goes from 72 to 81.

Introducing Michael Vick to Philadelphia

Just as with other current sports games, Madden NFL 10 will receive periodic roster updates from EA sports. These player updates are free of charge and can be downloaded via the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively.

Alongside the introduction of Brett Favre to the Vikings, EA also included an update to bring Michael Vick to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Vick gets an overall rating of 73, throw power of 93, throw accuracy of 69, throw on the run rating of 95, speed rating of 90, and ball carrier vision attribute of 95. Despite his propensity for running the ball, Vick only gets a carrying rating of 44.
