The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Games
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and Return of the King) are mainly single-player, action/adventure style games based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels and the blockbuster movies of the same names. With flashbacks and narration from the films, you are immersed in story of the tragedy of Middle Earth and the quest to destroy the Ring of Power. Play as Frodo, Aragorn, and other favorite characters as you complete the quests that bring you closer to saving Middle Earth.
Gameplay
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy games are easy to learn. All of the games are quest-based, and give you the opportunity to experience the trials, challenges and adventures of some of your favorite heroes from the Fellowship of the Ring. Explore the mines of Moria, play as Aragorn and seek the allegiance of the ghost army to assist in the battle at Helm’s Deep. Play as Sam and protect Frodo at all costs by battling your way through Goblins, Orcs and ferocious spiders. Use your strength, wits and magic to adventure through the dangerous world of Middle Earth.
In The Two Towers and Return of the King, levels are gained as quests are completed; then new combat combos and abilities are available. Your point rating scorecard shows you how well your combat skills accomplished your goals. Results include Fair, Good, Excellent to Perfect. Upgrades are available for purchase by using the points you earned. You start off with basic hand-to-hand combat moves that only require one button and then move into combination attacks that are more complex and have up to four button variations. All playable characters have a ranged attack, but only Gandalf has access to magic spells.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy games are all appropriate for young adults and up. They are mostly one-player games with variations in character selection. Only Return of the King offers co-op and online play. The co-op mode allows you to play the game with a friend on your own PS2 console, while the on-line mode allows you to play the game with others on the Internet, but you will need to install a network adapter (Ethernet) connection to get it to work. Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books and the blockbuster movies will enjoy these adventure games, playing as some of their favorite characters and immersing themselves in the world of Middle Earth.
