How Do You Play Wii Dance Revolution
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
So you have the dance mat and the game, but are you still wondering, "How do you play Wii Dance Revolution"? The game is very similar to the Dance Dance Revolution games of the past, but there are some subtle nuances that probably had you questioning how do you play Wii Dance Revolution.
The Basics of Dance Dance Revolution
Assuming you have never played a DDR game, the basics are in order. After you assimilate your dance mat to the Wii (the same way you do the remotes and the Balance Board), insert your disc and click past the title to get to the main menu. Here you have different modes to choose from. If you want to hop right in and dance, select Free Play. Groove Circuit is a challenge mode where you go from area to area completing challenges and battle bosses. Workout mode, as in most exercise games, is where you continuously dance until you either burn a calorie goal or reach a time limit.
How Do You Play Wii Dance Revolution?
Your mat has four arrows pointing Up, Down, Left, and Right. When the song starts, you'll notice that there are four arrows on the top of the screen pointing in the same directions. This is the "Target Zone". At some point, other arrows will start scrolling upwards toward this Target Zone. When the moving arrows reach the stationary arrows, you need to press the corresponding button on the dance mat. Be sure to stay on rhythm because the arrows will match up to the beat. While the arrows won't match up exactly on the 1, 2, 3, and 4 counts sometimes, you can be assured that the arrows won't follow some crazy pattern that is way off from the beat.
Do a couple of songs for practice to get the hang of how the arrows work in conjunction with the beats because once you start on the harder levels, the arrows will be on the 8th counts and sometimes on the 16th counts. A basic song has a 4 count beat with 3 counts in between. If you have trouble remembering this, just listen to a dance song: each heavy kick drum is on the main quarter beat, so just count "1, 2, 3, 4" every time you hear the kick drum.
Hand Movements
On the PlayStation 2 and 3, you can use the EyeToy to enhance the Dance Dance Revolution games by using your hands. The EyeToy wasn't very reliable in detecting hand movements because the motion sensor technology needed good lighting and near-perfect timing. You can also perform hand movements on the Wii version of Dance Dance Revolution. This is done with the Wii Remotes. Besides the arrows, you will also see diamonds progressing up the screen on the right arrow or left arrow. When you see the diamond, you shake the correct remote. Yes, that's it. It is possible to turn the hand movement feature off since you might get tired of shaking the remotes after a while.
For the Veterans
For some, the answer to the question "How do you play Wii Dance Revolution" is simple: the same as it's always been. Experts will have no problem shifting their feet to the songs because once you've played one DDR game, you've played them all. The Groove Circuit is what may challenge experienced players, but in the end, you step on the arrows to a trendy music track in order to rack up points and not fail the song. For the Veterans, the true fun comes in Battle Mode where you try to make your opponent lose by "attacking" them to make it harder to hit the arrows.
Move Your Feet
Hopefully now you can step on the mat and begin to dance. The common mantra you'll recognize is "Practice, Practice, Practice". Start with the easy modes. Until you can consistently pass songs with a 'B' or an 'A', keep plodding away before moving to the harder levels.
