Nintendo Wii Gift Ideas: Games
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Does this game even need an explanation? Nintendo's long awaited follow-up to the Zelda series has finally arrived, launching alongside the Wii with a stunning world to explore via motion-sensitive controls. Sales of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are almost equal to the Wii, meaning nearly everyone picked up a copy of the game with their brand new system. If there is only one Wii game you buy this holiday season, Twilight Princess should definitely be it.
Madden NFL 2007
Madden NFL 2007 is on the Wii, sporting some nice visuals and motion controls to boot. Use the Wii Remote to pass, kick and shove your way through a brand new season of high impact football. The Madden games are a very strong brand and are a sure-fire hit for any sports fanatic on your shopping list.
Rayman Raving Rabbids
One of the more unique launch titles for the Wii, Rayman Raving Rabbids puts the motion-sensitive Wii Remote to good use and provides a wacky gaming experience. Use the controller to help Rayman stave off the Rabbid invasion by competing in a number of insane mini-games (toss the cow, anyone?). A great holiday gift for just about anyone (even if it departs from the classic platformer genre)!
Red Steel
Red Steel is a first person shooter with a bit of flair. Set to the tune of a cheesy action movie, you must rescue a kidnapping victim using a variety of guns and your skills with the katana. Both are controlled with the motion-sensitive Wii Remote and add a new level of interactivity to first person shooters.
Elebits
Elebits is one of the interesting (quirky) games that Nintendo Wii owners will love to get their hands on. Using the motion-sensitive controller you must search through houses, streets and cities to find hidden creatures made of electricity, the Elebits. Store them up to help restore power to your home appliances. A great looking game that is sure to bring loads of fun, especially with multiplayer support.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
If the idea of monkeys trapped in giant balls seems a bit odd, you know just what to expect from this slightly off-kilter game. Using the Wii Remote to tilt, tumble and move the simians about, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is a great introduction to the new motion controls and gives you a lot of unique ways to play with your friends.
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
Tony Hawk's skating games gained popularity just a few years ago with smooth controls and loads of skateboarding trickery. Downhill Jam lets you tilt and whirl the Wii Remote to really get into the game. The latest Tony Hawk incarnation is much more kid-friendly and puts a stronger focus on racing rather than tricks.
Excite Truck
A Wii launch title from Nintendo themselves, Excite Truck puts you in control of a vehicle and lets you race by tilting and turning your controller. Filled with thrilling jumps and lots of arcade racing action, it's the perfect game for anyone looking for a bit of speed-based excitement.
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Using the motion-sensitive Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment, choose from a variety of doctor's surgical instruments and help save patients' lives in this tense (and remarkably difficult) game. Engaging, intuitive, and a definite departure from the standard fare.
Nintendo Wii Gift Ideas: Accessories
There are a number of good accessories you can buy for the Nintendo Wii. The first thing you'll need are more controllers. The system comes with one Wii Remote and one attachable nunchuk accessory, but if you want to play multiplayer games, you'll need more. The Wii Remote retails for around $40 while the nunchuk attachment is approximately half that. Buy them in pairs, as some games will require both accessories for playing.
Another great accessory are Wii Points cards. These allow anyone to transfer credits to Nintendo's online Virtual Console and purchase classic video games from the NES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, Super NES and Nintendo 64. Every month Nintendo releases another set of games to choose from, making Wii Points quite valuable. Think of them as gaming gift cards.
You might want to consider picking up a Wii Classic Controller as well. It features a friendly button layout that allows you to play older game titles on the Virtual Console with ease.
