Hasbro Family Game Night
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Whether you are organizing a holiday party or just a casual gathering with your cousins, Hasbro Family Game Night could be a great way to spend a few hours having a lot of family-friendly fun along the way. This title is available for the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 2. Better still, it is more affordably priced than some of the better known video games on the market today.
Family Fun with Video Games
So, what exactly can you expect from Hasbro Family Game Night? In essence, it is a digital representation of some classic Hasbro board games that have been entertaining families for decades. For this reason, it provides a much more communal experience than the individual activities you'd get if you were to buy Wii Fit.
Hasbro Family Game Night sounds like it could be a good addition to the Nintendo Wii collection of casual games, expanding the variety offered by titles like Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Music. Because it uses familiar games, the learning curve is also easy enough for even the most inexperienced of video game players.
What's Included with Hasbro Family Game Night?
As you prepare for a fantastic Wii party (or PS2 party), what can you expect from Hasbro Family Game Night? The five board games included in this digital package are all recognizable favorites from the past and you get guided through the whole process by a familiar face too. Or at least a familiar face that has been reconfigured many times in the last few decades: Mr. Potato Head!
Family Game Night comes with the following five Hasbro board games, digitized for your virtual gaming enjoyment.
Battleship
A naval battle simulation, Battleship gets you to place your ships within the confines of a grid with your opponent doing the same. You take turns calling out coordinates and the game will automatically indicate whether that shot is a hit or a miss. The gameplay is identical to the classic game, so there is a bit of an honor system during the phase in the game where the ships are initially placed.
Boggle
Perhaps one of the best known word games of our time is Boggle. A random assortment of letter cubes are shaken are slammed down onto a grid. Within a certain amount of time, each player must form as many words as possible by criss-crossing the letters displayed in the randomized grid. There are 16 cubic letter dice in all.
Connect Four
Connect Four takes the concept of Tic Tac Toe to a new level, making it a favorite puzzle game among friends and family. Take turns placing the circular game pieces into the seven columns. The first player to make a row, column, or diagonal line of four identically-colored pieces is the winner.
Sorry!
Can you make it all the way around the board before your opponents? With Sorry!, each player draws a card (instead of rolling a die) to determine how many spaces he or she can move. Each player begins the journey at a "start" location and must make it to the "home" location to win. If a player lands on a spot that is already occupied by a second player, that second player must return to his or her "start" location and begin the journey around the board all over again.
Yahtzee
A popular game created by Milton Bradley and now sold under the Hasbro brand, Yahtzee is a dice game where players try to create one of the 13 possible scoring combinations. The highest scoring combination is called a Yahtzee, consisting of five dice of the same value.
A Fresh Take on Hasbro Classics
While certainly not as complex as games like Mario Kart Wii and Rock Band, Hasbro Family Game Night can be a refreshing diversion during a family gathering or party. The five Hasbro classic board games included are familiar territory for most people, making this mini-game collection approachable by all members of the family. The inclusion of Mr. Potato Head as the game's guide is an added bonus.
