Halo 3: Preview Info
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Bungie's mega-hit Xbox video game is destined for an explosive sequel. The king first person shooters, Halo and Halo 2, changed gaming forever with the introduction of realistic physics and awesome gameplay. Now, with the new Xbox 360 on the market, fans are nervously wondering: "What will Halo 3 be like?"
Halo 3 Confirmed Information
We're still waiting on more details surrounding the must-have title for theXbox 360, but for the time being, the good people at Bungie have confirmed a handful of things:
- The trailer shown at Microsoft's press conference at the E3 Expo is quite intense, and shows off many key elements to Halo 3.
- Master Chief and Cortana are still separated from each other.
- Allusions have been made to "a devastated and Covenant controlled Earth".
- According to official statements, Halo 3 will have a new "materials system" that allows for highly detailed graphics. Zooming in on Master Chief's visor, you'll be able to see "everything in front of him reflected in it, right down to the ammo counter in his rifle."
Halo 3 Rumors
Not much news has trickled past Microsoft about Halo 3, so take these rumors with a grain of salt. If you know something we don't, click "Edit" and add it to the list!
- Some multiplayer sequences will support more than 50 players via Xbox Live.
- A map making function allows players to build and share their own custom maps.
- There may be a cooperative multiplayer function for campaign play.
- More levels than the first two Halo games combined (24!).
- Halo 3 will be a 2-disc set: One for the single player campaign, one for multiplayer. (thanks to user Nelsond for the previous two)
Note: these last few aren't they're just wishful thinking on my behalf; still all the same if Bungie wants to make them true all the power to them! Go for it!
- A possibility of AI bots in the regular non-co-op multiplayer modes.
- Master Chief, the Covenant, and the Brutes can all wall run in the first person.
- A possible co-op mode but via System Linking?
Visitor Comments: Only for Xbox 360?
- Notice how Halo 3 is only coming out on 360...leaving all Halo fans with an XBOX helpless. It isn't fair.
- That isn't right, they shouldn't do that just to make a quick buck. To be fair and make more money they ought to bring it out on both systems. So everyone is happy. Am I right?
- Well - from a game developer's perspective, as soon as a new system is out, you want to take advantage of the technology it offers so that would mean 2 very different designs and twice as many programmers. Then, since sales on an old system start to plummet as soon as a new system comes out, the chance of selling a lot on an old system goes down. So, publishers get worried they will not recoup their development costs. It feels unfair to people who don't want to upgrade, but is an unfortunate reality of nearly all technology purchases.
- Yes, that's true but not everyone can afford to upgrade. They should know that. Especially pricing the 360 the way it is. Many people can afford them. But most can't. Just because a new system comes out doesn't necessarily mean that everyone wants it or can afford it at that time. I'm fine with my XBOX. I just think that they should bring Halo 3 out on XBOX as well. When Halo 4 comes out...that would seem reasonable to only have on 360 because it would have been out for awhile. They shouldn't do this to recoop their developement costs for the 360 either. But I do understand your point of view.
- Not to mention the fact that you can't even get your hands on a 360 at the moment, even if you can afford the suggested retail...
- I wonder if this got to Bungie if they would even consider bringing Halo 3 out on XBOX? It would be nice. Maybe they'll change their mind at the last minute...who knows.
- By the time the game is released, the Xbox will probably not be supported (unless it's this spring, as some rumors claim, but this is doubtful). And Halo 3 might be too much for the Xbox to handle.
- How would it be too much for the Xbox to handle? The graphics? If that is so...they should be ashamed of the Xbox. This is pathetic.
- That's kinda the whole point of a "next-gen" system, to have games the previous generations couldn't handle.
- So you're saying that the Xbox is weak? They are going to make it too much for the Xbox to handle?
- I've heard that Halo 3 will be playable on the Xbox as long as you get a certain disc. I've also heard that they are going to make it for both.
- there not making it for both it is made just for the 360 the reason why is because is that the graphic abilitys of the 360 are greater.
- They are making not for the 360 but for xbox because they didnt have the sales results they wished for the 360 therefore to make more money they are going to make it for the system that has majority owners.
- Negative. The xbox can't handle it. It's a single core system, and bungie has already stated that they are using both cores to handle the new AI as well as the completely new graphics. For those of you complaining about owning an xbox, go get a 360. You have plenty of time to save up, so quit your complaing and quit living in the past.
The Mega Grenade?
Combat evolved indeed! A rumored grenade in Halo 3 features a new opponent motion tracking system that has a ribcage that expands and lights up when in use. When dropped, the grenade turns green, then follows whoever dropped it. When it detects an opponent it turns yellow and bounces toward the enemy. If they wall run across any surface, the grenade follows.
Once the grenade is within a decent blast radius of the opponent, its ribcage light then turns red and blasts them with a blinding white light that sends the opponent falling down rag doll physics style. They twitch while they're on the ground long after being blasted by this grenade. To add insult to injury, it's flame proof and can and will bounce through any opposing grenade or rocket launcher blasts intact until it reaches and blasts its target. No matter what, it leaves the player who dropped it unharmed by its blast.
