Guitar Hero 2 Review
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
Get ready to rock with the new Guitar Hero 2 game! This exciting new addition brings a new selection of songs, characters, guitars and a lot of other cool stuff. If you liked the original rhythm game you won’t be disappointed.
Guitar Hero 2: What’s New
Guitar Hero 2 keeps all the features we liked from the first Guitar Hero, and improved in some areas that needed a bit of tweaking. Read on rocker, and find out what makes this game a must have title!
Training Mode
Do you have a tough time with some of those complicated riffs, making it difficult for you to advance your rock career? Check out the new training section. You can practice the song at your own pace. Play the whole song, or any particular section that you are having a difficult time nailing down. It’s also great because you can adjust the speed of the song from a really slow tempo to the actual speed of the song. Sometimes just playing that challenging rhythm over and over is just the ticket you need to get that high five star rating.
Career Mode Changes
On your path to become the greatest rock legend ever, you will be challenged by a total of 40 songs, a small decrease over the original Guitar Hero’s 47 songs. Each venue section has four songs to choose from to complete the level, and a bonus song that appears as an encore track after you complete the required ones in the section.
In Guitar Hero 2, there is an interesting mix of classic and modern rock groups like Black Sabbath, Kiss, Rolling Stones, Stone Temple Pilots, Lamb of God, and Primus along with many others. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to buy up to 25 additional songs from your winnings on each level, which is a bit of an increase from the 17 in the original Guitar Hero game.
Multi-Player Options
Want to play this game with your friends and see who the best rocker is? Now you have three multi-player options that add a whole new dimension to the game.
Co-op Mode
- Guitar Hero 2 offers a new co-op mode where you and a friend can jam together at the same time as a lead or a bass player. All that is needed is a second guitar controller and you’re good to go. You can individually adjust the difficulty level for each player, which is nice in case one of you has just started trying out the game. If both players are trying out different skill levels, points will be adjusted so no one will have an unfair advantage.
Face-Off Mode
- True to the original Guitar Hero, in this mode you and a friend switch off playing the same song to see who is the better rocker. As with co-op mode, you can adjust the difficulty level to adjust for your skill level.
Pro Face-Off Mode
- Ready for an ultimate challenge? This mode allows you and a buddy to compete together by playing the same song at the same time. Your skill level will be the same. Unlock this mode by completing a career at any skill level.
Other Cool Features
- Eight available characters from the start of the game, along with three bonus characters that can be unlocked and purchased.
- The Venues: Stonehenge, Republik Theater, Red Octane, Harmonix Arena, and Black Bar.
- 17 guitars available for purchase at the beginning of the game, with an additional 8 unlockable “mystery” guitars that will open up after completing your career inthe different skill levels.
- 9 available skins that can be purchased in the store to spruce up your guitar.
Guitar Hero 2: Worth your time?
Fans of the original title will enjoy the new songs, co-op and training modes. Although the game is not entirely new, the added features are sure to bring a new element of challenge and fun to any Guitar Hero at any level of skill. This game is highly addictive, and this LoveToKnow rocker can’t get enough of the cool songs and challenging riffs! Rock on!!
