Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Sex Scene Mods
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
As if Grand Theft Auto didn't have enough controversy… Now there is a mod on the net that you can use to access scenes in Grand Theft Auto that include full-contact sex. In the regular version of the game, the hero visits his girlfriend's home and has a cup of coffee; during the scene, the exterior of the house is displayed at one point while suggestive sound effects are played. However, in the modified version of the game, the scene is visually explicit.
Sex and Violence
Like its predecessors in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been criticized for its violence. The game, which teems with prostitutes and gangsters, has been cited as one of the most brutal games on the market; of course, it is also one of the most popular video games on the market. GTA, along with some other high profile and explicit games, has been catalytic in many states introducing legislation to prevent minors from getting violent video games; recent bills have been introduced in Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina and Washington, D.C.
Video Game Mods
Modders use software tools and hacks to change the look and feel of computer and video games. Some titles even come with tools that allow users to easily change gaming features. These mods are popular with gamers because they can create unique and original scenarios that make their gaming experiences richer; they often share their mods by making them available on the Internet for other people to download.
Of course, modders often create mods that add more violence or sexual content to video games. However, the "Hot Coffee" mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is being singled out as the most sexually explicit one to date.
About the GTA Mods
The real buzz right now is whether the "Hot Coffee" mod was an Easter Egg (a secret feature) created by the game's developer, that was simply activated by a modder, or whether the entire sequence was a mod. The mod programs change a flag in the game's code that allow the gamer to view the explicit content.
If the content was actually built into the game, the game's publisher, Take Two, may be in violation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board's rules for the Mature rating the game currently has on its label. Sexually explicit content must be disclosed to the ESRB and content such as the hot coffee mod scene will rate an Adults Only rating on a game. Since many major retailers will not carry games with an AO rating, this can adversely affect a game's sales.
However, even if the explicit content was on the game's disc, the fact that it had to be released by a change to the game's programming may allow GTA to keep its Mature rating. Certainly, it will cause the ESRB to reevaluate the way they rate the non-playable content contained on game discs.
