Free Playable NES Video Games
From LoveToKnow VideoGames
While it's great to enjoy some of the newest video games on the market, you can also have a lot of fun with free playable NES video games. Since the original Nintendo console is quite old now, it may be difficult to find a system that still works perfectly. That's why you may need to take alternative approaches to playing some NES classics.
Nostalgia Can Be Free
Whether you want to relive your childhood or you're playing these old games for the first time, the Nintendo Entertainment System is home to a lot of terrific titles.
One of the easiest way to enjoy some classic Nintendo games is through the Wii Virtual Console. They're not terribly expensive, but it's still money out of your pocket. While the selection and process may not be quite as simple, getting some free playable NES video games is a lot friendlier on your wallet.
Where Can I Find Free Playable NES Video Games?
You may have to be a little creative when it comes to finding some free playable NES video games, but rest assured that they are out there.
Animal Crossing on the Gamecube
While many people are playing the versions of Animal Crossing available on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS these days, the simulation franchise with talking animals got its start on the Nintendo GameCube.
One of the best features of the original Animal Crossing had very little to do with the game's core focus at all. Did you know that it contained free playable NES video games? If you look at our list of cheat codes, you'll find that Animal Crossing had fully playable versions of many NES favorites.
Among the NES classics found in Animal Crossing are Donkey Kong, Excitebike, and Balloon Fight.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Trials
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is widely applauded as being of the best rated Wii games available on the system. The gameplay is simple enough for beginners, yet robust enough for veterans. Aside from the main fighting game and the adventure mode, you'll also find that this game contains a number of free playable NES video games.
This comes with a bit of a caveat, however. You can earn NES games in Super Smash Bros. Brawl but they are not full versions of the games. Instead, they are all trial versions that then encourage you to buy the full versions via the Wii Virtual Console.
Some of the NES trials made available in Brawl include the original Super Mario Bros., Kirby's Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda.
Video Game Emulators and Websites
Although the legal ramifications of their use fall into quite the gray area, video game emulators are incredibly popular not necessarily for piracy purposes but rather to enjoy classic and arcade games that may not otherwise be available.
With some careful searching on the Internet, you'll find information about the MAME emulator, for instance, that can be used to run a wide range of video game ROMs. The ownership of the emulator itself is not illegal, but using illegally-attained ROMs may be illegal. Tread with extreme caution.
Just like MAME for the PC, you may also find unauthorized software for other consoles that may allow for some free playable NES video games. There is an NES emulator available for the Nintendo DS, for example, as well as one for the PSP. Like MAME, the legal issues may offer more risk than reward, so it is perhaps best to stick to the fully legal and authorized channels instead.
