At Lego Chic Boutique, you have a goal of trying to run a chain fashion boutique. Since customers are always right and the customers want accessories, then it’s accessories you shall sell them. The main portion of the game is to make matches in a puzzle game which will give you stock and bring in customers. Match horribly and you will drive your customers away with crappy looking accessories. The free game has a time limit.

At the same site you can play, Lego Builder Bots, which could be renamed Lego Tetris. You catch falling Lego blocks to build certain assigned things, like a ship or a robot. You have little minions which to the building for you, but they do have a limited energy. Of course, the blocks don’t fall down in any order and you have to be strategic in how you catch them. You can get power-ups to assist you or it’s possible you may catch a block with a booby-trap. The free game has a time limit.

Mindstorms, a more advanced Lego system, has some fun programming-type games that will get you thinking hard.

You drive Shadow, a Lego Bot that has Vision Command. Your goal is to catch a notorious cat burglar in the act of her final job in Telgrad. The Vision Command lets you snap pictures so you better be a good shot... with a camera that is. The environment is open so driving everywhere is limitless. Be careful though, the suspects act like they do in Metal Gear Solid: at the slightest noise they might catch YOU in the act of catching them!

There’s a new space station and SIM:BOT needs to be sent there to patrol each level to make sure everything is okay before the actual space station crew arrives. How you control the bot is a little like a flowchart. You place blocks on the level that require the SIM:BOT to perform actions and depending on the action goes to another block with more instructions. For instance, there is one block that the SIM:BOT has that senses if his front sensor is pressed or released. If it is pressed you can have him to one thing or you can have him do something else. You goal is to sweep through the level make sure that it is 100% free of “bugs”.

Another programming game, StormRunner is your only link to save a group of colonists who have crash-landed on a mysterious planet. With similar commands as SIM:BOT, you maneuver and command the RCX StormRunner to gather data and resources to build more robot workers to do your bidding. The colonists have left clues for you and it’s up to you and your StormRunner to figure that out. There are nicely animated sequences telling the story and StormRunner is a free game that is downloaded to your computer to play in your web browser without needing to go online every time.

Coolbuddy has Lego Treasure Hunt, a fun little flash platformer starring Jim the Lego Pirate. All the graphics are actual Lego pieces and people photographed and manipulated very cleverly. While simple in design and control, you may find yourself playing the game all the way through (which should take no more than an hour). At first, the controls are: cursor keys for movement, and the enter key for performing actions. As you get the ability to do more stuff, like after you purchase a gun, other keys perform those actions. Some of the puzzles are rather easy and the game is short, but you still may want to create a map as you go, otherwise you may get lost. If you’ve got an hour to spend and you love Legos, then check the game out.

Most free Lego video games are homebrew games that are meant to pass a quick minute or two. The licensed games on Lego tend to be more advanced in terms of gameplay and graphics. Either way you get your Lego gameplay, just remember when you switch to the real thing that if you build it... well, you get the rest.
