Final Fantasy Advent Child

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

What Is It?

Final Fantasy: Advent Children is a new computer-animated movie coming your way Thanksgiving 2005. As you've probably guessed, it's made by Square Enix, the same folks who made the critically-panned Final Fantasy movie, and it features the same animation style and detail.

What's It About?

Final Fantasy: Advent Children continues the Final Fantasy 7 plotline two years after the game ended. Since FFVII was originally released for the PSX, it probably won't be a spoiler to tell you that the game was a lengthy RPG in which the player, as the spiky-haired Calvin-wannabe (as in Calvin and Hobbes) Cloud Strife, wanders the length and breadth of a world sprinkled with both magic and technology, gathering allies in his quest to defeat the evil corporation Shinra and his daunting nemesis and ex-mentor Sephiroth.

Who's in It?

Ayumi Ito, Takahiro Sakurai, Maaya Sakamoto... oh, wait, you're probably not curious about who the Japanese voice actors are. The biggest American names attached are Lance Bass of N'Sync and Mandy Moore, who plays Aeris Gainsborough.

No, Who's in It?

I just... oh! You mean, which of your favorite FFVII characters? Apparently everyone, including the bizarre feline Cait Sith, Tifa, Rufus (ex-head of Shinra), Barret, Cid Highwind and, of course, Sephiroth.

What's It Rated?

PG-13. As for viewer ratings, check out the profile at IMDB.

Can I See A Preview?

Head to Happy Puppy to see some really long Japanese-language trailers.

Will It Be Worth Seeing?

This is a matter of opinion. :) If you played FFVII until your thumbs bled, you probably wouldn't mind losing another 101 minutes to this franchise. However, the movie will probably appeal mostly to the die-hards who are familiar with the game and that world. Already, early viewers who've seen the Japanese print or festival screenings say that it moves quickly - and that means confusion for those less familiar with the original game's plot.
