Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel
Jonathon Wendell known best as ‘Fatal1ty’ to his fans and the press is the very first successful professional gamer. He began his now prestigious career in 1999 when he entered the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) in Dallas. He went onto finish in third place, securing himself a whopping four thousand dollars. With his reputation as one of America’s top gamers established and his prize money in tow, he began to expand his operation, starting with a competition in Sweden against 12 more of the worlds best ‘Cyber Athletes’. He won all 18 of his games straight putting him instantly into first place, not only within the tournament but also worldwide as the best Quake III player.
After this he went on to win a variety of other tournaments across the globe winning himself the title of World Champion for a total of 5 different games. During his last interview with CBS Johnathan revealed he had made over $300,000 in prize money alone so far. He is by all accounts living a life that has made him the envy of millions of gamers around the world. Along with doing it what he loves and making money from it, Johnathan also tries to achieve a more substantial goal for every one of us. He is a true ‘eSports ambassador’, spreading the word about the reality of gaming as a sport in an attempt to dispel the stereotypical presumptions still held by many people.
The Fatal1ty Brand
To add the monumental success already achieved Johnathan has released a series of gaming-related products for mass consumption under his own brand name. He believes that gaming competition is improved with superior equipment, the building of such items is the main goal behind each product that carries his name. He is personally consulted before the release of any subsequent products to ensure its quality is up to his own standards. After all if the worlds best gamer says something helps, well it’s hard to disagree!
