Electronic Arts (EA) and Madden 06 Superbowl Results

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Electronic Arts, owner of the exclusive video game publishing rights to the NFL (National Football League) and creators of the famed Madden series, took the time to run a little simulation the week before the Superbowl. Using the latest Madden video game, Madden '06, EA pitted the Seahawks against the Steelers in what will be Superbowl XL.

EA Madden 06

The results? Steelers oust the Seahawks 24 to 19.

The simulated game featured a strong defensive efford from the Steelers that resulted in four quarterback sacks (look out, Matt Hasselbeck) and limited one of the Seahawks' top runners to just 70 yards rushing. Given the information just released, will Seattle toughen up their offense? Will the Steelers become over-confident and let their defense run slack? Will the results of the simulated Superbowl have any affect on the event whatsoever? You'll just have to wait until Sunday to find out!

Talk about it - EA and Madden 06 Predict the Superbowl

What do you think? Can any amount of programming produce a game so realistic it can predict events such as this? Share your thoughts on the subject!

Bard:Meh. I think it's just all fun and games. EA obviously didn't do it in an attempt to predict the results. It was just for show.

NTE:Steelers won 21-10, so the simulation was correct for the winner, though not for the score. That said, a Seahawks TD was disallowed, which I think was a good one, so, in a way, the score could have been 21-17... not far off from the EA simulation.

Bard:Maybe the coaches and players saw the results of the simulation and, due to the power of suggestion, subconsciously attempted to mirror the results...
