EA Sports Active Bundle

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

The EA Sports Active Bundle is the latest exercise game for the Wii. Following the tradition of Wii Fit, Electronic Arts created a game that allows a gamer or Wii player to exercise in the comfort of his or her home and at his or her pace.

Included Contents

Besides the game, the EA Sports Active Bundle comes with a leg strap that wraps around your leg to hold the Nunchuck. If you are participating in activities that require lower body movement, then the strap is important. Also included in the box is a pair of resistance bands with removable grips. Luckily, the grips can be detached and used with other resistance bands because there have been many complaints that the included bands don't provide enough tension for an adequate workout.

Though not included, the Wii Balance Board can be used for some of the exercises, but you don't necessarily need the peripheral to enjoy the EA Sports Active Bundle.

EA Sports Active Bundle Exercise Options

With your video game exercise personal trainer, you will participate in a number of exercises in order to achieve goals and finish sessions. Some of the games include:

  • Running
  • Boxing
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Punching Bag
  • Dancing (aerobics)
  • Lunges

You can put those exercises together into a 20 minute workout or set a challenge mode where the goals can be total calories burned or reaching a set time. There is a 30 Day Challenge mode where you can also set some of the same goals.

Not All About Exercise

It's not just about running, burning calories, and increase cardio fitness. To motivate you, the game gives out trophies for achieving certain things like exercising with a friend or finishing the 30 Day Challenge correctly (which means you didn't skip a day and you completed all the required exercises).

Okay, so most of the EA Sports Active Bundle is about the exercise. After playing the game for a little while, you may want to create your own workout sessions. You can do so by only including your favorite exercises or by setting a set number of calories to be burned. You can also set up a workout based on what part of the body you want to exercise: the upper body, lower body, or cardiovascular improvement. A graph indicates the intensity of the workout for each of the sections of the body and by changing an exercise here and there or increasing and decreasing the difficulty settings, you can effectively change the overall difficulty of the routine.

EA Sports Website

To help keep you motivated, be sure to check out EA Sports Active.com. This site is rich with content on getting and staying healthy. Besides learning about the bundle, you can read nutrition, sleeping, and exercising advice that don’t necessarily have to do with the game itself. One good feature is to see workouts that you can use at home in case you are getting bored with your own or can't find enough variety in the game itself. Theoretically, you have a seemingly infinite number of routines you can set up.

Fun Facts

  • Personal trainer Bob Greene (seen on Oprah many times) helped develop the game.
  • Peter Moore wanted a more "Western approach" to exercise with a focus on weight loss and high-impact development. This is in contrast to the Eastern philosophy of the Wii Fit that promotes balance, low-impact, and stretching (hence, the inclusion of many Yoga exercises).

Get Out There and Exercise!

Exercise games like the EA Sports Active bundle can get you going in the comfort of your own home. Whether you are not ready to go to the gym or exercise outdoors, boot up a copy of this game, don the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, and get moving and feel good!
