The kind folks over at Gamelab bring us Diner Dash, a fast, fun, incredibly addictive little jewel of a game.

Go Flo Go

Diner Dash puts you in the role of Flo, an ambitious ex-executive with a dream of owning and operator her own restaurant. For once we’re forced into the role of a female lead character in a game that doesn’t carry the Barbie trademark. As Flo, you have to seat customers, serve them food and drinks, and present them with their check, all in a very timely manner. The faster you are, the happier they are. And very happy customers leave very generous tips, which you will need to remodel your restaurant, one piece at a time.
You will have to multitask several things in order to properly serve your customers. You’ll have to:
  • Seat Customers
  • Take Orders
  • Serve Coffee
  • Serve Food
  • Serve Checks
  • Clean Tables

Bonuses

If you do one thing several times in a row interrupted (i.e. serve food), you get bonus points. Another way to acquire bonus points is through seating. The customers come in two distinct clothing colors: Red and blue. After you seat them, the seat turns either red or blue. By keeping that seat occupied by similar-colored patrons, you rack up bonus points.

Clickin' Away

You perform every action by simply clicking on whatever needs your attention. When customers walk into your restaurant, simply click and drag them over a table to seat them. When customers are ready to order, simply click on their table and Flo will take their order, and then click on the order wheely-mabob to give the order to the chef. Once their order is up, it will be placed on the counter. Simply click on it and then click on the table to serve it to the customers, and so on and so forth.

The Customer is Always Right

Customers come in groups (sometimes a group of one), and each group has a row of stars next to it to indicate how happy those customers are. The longer they have to wait, the more stars disappear, and the more unhappy they get. Unhappy customers don’t leave very good tips.

You're a Hit!

After a few stages, business will really start to pick up. You’ll open more restaurants and more colors will be introduced. Luckily, Diner Dash allows you to click several things at once and chain all of your actions together, instead of waiting until Flo is free to click something else. You’ll also get some senior citizens in your restaurant, who are slow but patient, and also don’t leave very good tips.

Visuals and Audio

Diner Dash is done in a cartoony, 2-D way that has a special charm and works exceptionally well for the kind of game it is. It’s very easy on the eyes. The audio is standard chit-chatter, nothing special, but nothing horrible either.

Wrap-Up

Diner Dash is one of the most simple, yet painfully addictive online games I’ve played. While it’s by no means a “dumb” game, it does require fast reflexes as opposed to fast thinking skills. There isn’t much to it, but there’s more than enough to keep anybody occupied. [[[Cake Mania Review]]]
