Types of Video Game Cheat Codes
The definition of video game cheat codes is quite a broad one. It includes all user-made hacks, strategies, Easter eggs, abused game glitches, game enhancement devices, included cheat codes and a whole lot more.
Designed Cheats
Game makers want you to enjoy the game as much as possible. After all, they put countless hours of work into it. Adding a few unlockable secrets and bonuses is their way of extending its life. New items or playable characters obtained by beating the game/entering certain areas/performing different tasks are common in most games.
Cheating Accessories
There are a number of cheating periphernalia for video game consoles. Pro Action Replay, Game Shark and Game Genie are three of the most common. Each allows you to enter in codes for different effects (infinite lives, unlimited health, etc.) in the game. Some codes alter the game significantly, such as changing gravity or making odd sprites appear from nowhere.
Glitches
With tens of thousands of lines of code, glitches can arise in even the most thoroughly tested software. Sometimes these bugs can be exploited by users and used to cheat.
