The Sega Dreamcast is a discontinued system that was largely considered to be ahead of its time. Sega, the longtime rival of Nintendo in the hardware market, pushed the Dreamcast out the door almost a year before its competitors. It was Sega's last console and was meant to compete with the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation One. It did poorly in sales, however, and Sega withdrew from the hardware market. Today the Dreamcast has a strong legion of followers who still enjoy the surprisingly robust library of interesting and unique video games.
Sega Dreamcast Games
The Dreamcast was the first widely available system that had the capabilities to produce smooth 3D graphics. Titles such as Soul Calibur and Sonic the Hedgehog were star examples of the Dreamcast's power. The system also shipped with several accessory add-ons that, ironically, became popular years after its failure.
One of the reported reasons for the Dreamcast's loss on the market was a lack of sports titles, especially from producer Electronic Arts. A comparable lineup of very unique games was created in an attempt to offset this imbalance. Titles such as Typing of the Dead, REZ and Space Channel 5 are adored by fans even today for their forward-thinking sense of gaming direction.
