Classic Video Games

You can't really appreciate the newest releases until you've had the opportunity to enjoy some classic video games. Before we had the opportunity to play incredible titles like Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2, we were first armed with chainsaws in games like Doom and Duke Nukem. And this expands well beyond just shooting games.
They say that everyone should know their history and the world of video games is no exception. The irony is that while classic video games like Donkey Kong and Galaga do not offer the same level of high-end graphics as more recent titles, they did offer incredibly addictive gameplay that swallowed up tons of quarters in local arcades.
There are many fantastic titles from the past that continue to influence games to this day. If it were not for Tetris, the puzzle game genre would not have evolved into what it is today. Players would not have ever been treated to Bejeweled and Puzzle Quest, not to mention interesting off-shoots like Tetris DS and Tetrisphere.
Thanks to the Wii Shop, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade, players can still dive into history and enjoy a blast from the past. Want to play a classic NES game? You can do that on the Nintendo Wii. Care to play an original PlayStation title? The PS3 can do that.
Better still, many of these legendary titles can even be played for free. There are a variety of websites on the Internet that offer free emulators and online Flash game versions of Pong and Tetris. While you must be careful not to engage in piracy or to visit dangerous websites, the opportunity is there for nice, clean (and free) fun too.
History is everywhere and classic video games are definitely a part of the mix.
