Best Wii Games for Kids

If you're looking for the absolute best Nintendo Wii games for kids, you've come to right place. From the Wii launch titles right up to the latest releases, Nintendo and third-party developers have done a fantastic job with creating video games for kids. Here are some of the best that we've seen that should be appropriate for children of all ages.

Wii Sports

Bundled in with every system sold in North America, Wii Sports is a compilation of five different activities, each of which make use of the Wii Remote's unique motion-sensitive controls in an interesting way. Because the controls are so intuitive, children have no problem learning how to play tennis, baseball, bowling, boxing, or golf. The cute graphics are also a major plus, but real fun can be had by creating your customized Mii characters and having them participate in the sports too!

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

Without a doubt, the two most recognizable characters in video game history are Mario and Sonic. The bitter rivals now find themselves at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, competing against one another in a series of Olympic events, including swimming, hurdles, and more. Children will enjoy playing as some of their favorite Nintendo characters, participating in real Olympic events. The multiplayer aspect adds an extra dimension of family fun.

Elebits

Elebits is an excellent title for teaching young ones how to manipulate their environments. Rated as one of the best Wii games for kids, Elebits grants users the control of an interesting gravity gun. In order to pick up an object, simply aim the energy beam at that object with your Wii Remote. Opening doors is performed in much the same matter and the ultimate goal is to collect all the Elebits in each stage. Up to four players can play at the same time.

Cooking Mama: Cook Off

Following in the success of the original game released on the Nintendo DS, Cooking Mama: Cook Off is a cooking simulation title featuring a happy cartoon mother character. Follow her as she walks through all sorts of different recipes in the kitchen, all without the risk of getting cut or burned. The arcade style action is simple enough for even young children to enjoy.

Super Paper Mario

Although this RPG/platformer title may seem a little too complicated for some younger players, older kids will surely enjoy the challenge and uniqueness of Super Paper Mario. Perhaps the most interesting feature of this game is that players can dynamically switch between a 2D and 3D gaming environment, navigating their way through classic Mario-themed stages.

Excite Truck

Many young boys (and girls) love nothing more than to play with monster trucks, so let them take a virtual truck for a race through the desert in Excite Truck. This is one of the easiest racing games to play, because you simply hold the Wii Remote on its side and tilt it as if you were turning a steering wheel.

Great Kids Games on the Wii Virtual Console

Some of the best Wii games for kids can be found on the Wii Virtual Console. Through this download service, you'll find countless classic titles that were originally released on the NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and Turbo Grafx-16. The graphics will be decidedly simpler, but the gameplay may be easier for young children to understand too. Parents will likely get a kick out of the retro appeal as well.

Smarty Pants is a fun game for the whole family, especially younger kids. It's a trivia game with a little bit of intuitive question asking. Questions are geared towards the age, not just random and if you seem to be getting wrong answers, then the game adjusts the difficulty to a little easier. Also, if you are getting many right answers, the questions will get harder. And with over 20,000 questions, this game will not get old quick.
