Want to find the best military-minded games on the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PC? Look no further, because we've found the best of the best. Be all that you can be, soldier!
Best Army Games to Play
You'll see some familiar names in this list and that's because army games -- like sports games -- typically come as part of franchises. Just as there is a new Madden NFL game every year, there are several sequels to popular army video games.
SOCOM
SOCOM 3: US Navy Seals for the PS2 is a squad-based army game wherein the primary point of control is through a standard first-person shooter perspective. As is the norm with this series, you play the commander, collect weapons, and complete missions.
One of the best iterations of the SOCOM series is easily SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 2 for the PSP. It's a two-man squad, but you can issue commands to your partner as you transverse the terrain and attack your enemies. Playing online is also very excellent.
Call of Duty
Call of Duty by Activision is highly revered as being of the finest army simulation games available on the market today. Because of its highly technical nature, novice gamers may get frustrated with titles from this franchise. However, that is usually the case with most first-person shooters in general, particularly tactile military games.
Most Call of Duty games are based on real-life events, so you just may revisit specific battles in World War II, for example. The utter realism can be pretty eerie.
Medal of Honor
One of the most beginner-friendly franchises in the army game genre is Medal of Honor. Having played through both Frontline and Rising Sun on the GameCube with my brother, I can attest that the multiplayer campaigns are an absolute blast.
Surely, there is strategy involved, but I found Medal of Honor to be a lot more forgiving in terms of leaving your character out in the open. The variety of weapons is quite fun as well.
Resistance: Fall of Man
The first must-have title for the PlayStation 3, Resistance: Fall of Man is an absolute masterpiece.
It is not a traditional army game, because the enemy across the field is not another nation, but aliens from another planet altogether. The Chimera are highly advanced soldiers and they will not hesitate to blow your head off!
Controls are great once you get used to them, and enjoying such an intense shooting game on an HDTV simply cannot be beat. Fantastic.
Battlefield 2
Perhaps the most revered army game for the PC, Battlefield 2 is the official successor to the highly successful Battlefield 1942.
In this game, you can choose between three different factions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. You can choose to fight on the side of the People's Republic of China, the United States of America, or the Middle East Coalition.
While much of the battle will be fought on foot, there are also a significant number of vehicles involved in BF2, traveling by land, sea, and air.
Military Strategy and Shooting Galore
If you want to play army games, there is no shortage of options available to you. They all offer incredible weaponry, intricate strategy, and intense warfare with some highly intelligent enemies. Strap on your boots, load up your gun, and head out, soldier!
