Arcade Style Racing Games for Xbox

From LoveToKnow VideoGames

Let's face it: finding arcade style racing games for Xbox in the mix of realistic simulation racers is a little tough. Some people just want to dive right in and race without worrying about drag, suspension ratios, and what tires go with what racing surface. While simulation racing games fit a nice niche of the gaming society, arcade-style racing games let you lose yourself into the game a lot more. The following list of arcade style racing games for the Xbox is a good way to get your arcade on.

Project Gotham Racing

With superb graphics and a host of different races, Project Gotham Racing (originally Metropolis Street Racer for the Dreamcast) will take up some time to finish. There are over 300 circuit-type races in four cities. Your three main goals is to go fast, be fancy, and take risks. The physics put you on the borderline of arcade and simulation, because you can't hit other cars and parts of the environment without getting penalized, but you don't have to worry about fine-tuning your car to get the best performance. You can just select a car and go.

World Racing 2

This racing game sequel put more arcadeness into it. You can still customize your car if you want to, but TDK has added mission modes and scenarios, simplified tuning options and more cars. You can choose how you race and those modes are simply called Arcade and Simulation. Pick Arcade if you just want to hop into the game and tear up some tarmac. There are 40 licensed cars, over 100 tracks (off-road and street), and over 100 missions to test your driving skills. World Racing 2 has put the fun back in its racing series.

Ford Mustang

If you don't own an arcade style racing game for the Xbox and want to sink your teeth into one, pick up Ford Mustang. The game is merely Ford Racing except with Mustangs. Unlike Ford Racing, this game is probably the most arcade racing game you will find on the Xbox. You can race all kinds of Mustang models from 1964 to 2005, including a couple of concept cars. The physics will remind you of San Francisco Rush, so don't worry about scratching the paint because you can't. And if thinking that Ford Mustang was arcade, you can compete in coin-op races which simulate you putting in a quarter. That means you better get the most out of one play.

RalliSport Challenge 2

Okay, so you don't like rally racing games. Sure, you have to play more than one in order to start enjoying them or to really see what they are about, but if you want to ditch the seemingly never-ending customization options in rally games, then play RalliSport Challenge 2. Go fast on a dirt road is this game's motto. Your mom probably never told you to do that. If you want the pure fun of going fast around a track without too much worry of damage and losing your way, then RalliSport 2 is your bag.

Burnout Revenge

What if you could pop in a game, go through a couple menus and be racing in just a few minutes? No doubt you'd say 'heck yes'. Burnout Revenge is that game. While there are less 'get to the finish line' races, your other main goal is to destroy opponents. That's right, get to the finish line first, but also gain some boost by crippling your opponents. Burnout Revenge is probably the fast game out there because you already go fast under your own power, but you can also go even faster by getting those boosts. This is the game that should have been called The Fast and the Furious.

Arcade Style Racing Games for Xbox

There are many racing games for the Xbox available. Only 10-15% of them are any good and of that, about 5% of them can truly be called Arcade racers. A game that lets you pick a car and immediately start racing is probably an arcade-style racing game, and that includes loading time and any time picking your radio station.
